My Thoughts on the episode "Twilight Time" · 9:19pm Feb 28th, 2014
Once again, I like the My Little Pony series as a whole and hope to see more of their works, but now it's time to reveal what I thought about Twilight Time if you haven't heard my opinion already from SuperPinkBronie12's review. I thought the episode was okay, but something I must point out. The episode pulled a complete 180 as some people would say. When I said I wanted a little more focus on Twilight's title as a princess, I didn't mean, make them grovel at her feet and win her thanks, I meant, when she is talking with other's or she politely asks something of them they she show a little courtesy and respect her title. They went from ignoring Twilight's title as Princess to making all the fillies want a moment with her. I mean seriously, if they were wanting to see her so badly they could have just gone to the library to ask her for autographs. Now, I think one of the writers noticed that they weren't giving Twilight's title it's due credit and must have hatched this grand idea to let the other writers know that if you ignore this little detail, it will come back and bite you in the flank (pun intended) with episodes like this. Plus, now I have to ask, what's up with this scene:
Diamond Tiara: I mean we use to see her around town all the time and I thought, 'whatever'.
Silver Spoon: Me too, I thought that.
Diamond Tiara: But now she's a Princess, which makes her totally awesome.
Silver Spoon: Plus she has wings.
Diamond Tiara: And she's an alicorn.
Oh sweet Celestia and Luna my head hurts from listening to that.
Seriously, this is something that I can't believe Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon would say. I mean here are reasons I think Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon would still have thought of Twilight as totally awsome:
1. She's was one of six bearers of the Elements of Harmony. (This actually should have gained the CMC some credibility for knowing famous ponies, since their related or act like a sister [in Scootaloo's case] to three of the six element bearers.)
2. She's is Princess Celestia's star student. (This would gain the attention of many ponies and Ticket master was a prime example when everyone offered her favors in order to go to the gala, that's one episode they did good in my opinion.)
3. She and her friends saved Ponyville and Equestria more than once in the series. (That made them famous throughout Equestria and beyond.)
4. She's from Canterlot. (From what I understood early on, anypony who shows up in ponyville or other parts of Equestria from that fine city would be getting a lot of publicity [point in case: Ponyville Confidential].)
If those weren't reason enough to make her a pony of importance, I don't know what is, unless this information was withheld from the two spoiled fillies. I will say they did good on the scene of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon trying to impress Twilight by saying they were into things that they never would have given second glance to before. That's a prime example of how people who knew you before but you weren't friends with now want to be on your good side.
Another scene I thought wasn't too bad, but threw me for a loop was the restaurant scene. Twilight Sparkle with common Table Manners was the last thing I expected. I would have thought to see elegance in the way she ate her food, all the same, it goes to show that when no pony else is around to judge and your with friends, royal table manners don't apply, but the fillies and colts taking pictures of her eating at the restaurant could be used by many forms of press to potentially ruin her image. Like, if a certain mare got a hold of those, this could lead to an interesting rival meeting again. In fact, if a certain stallion of importance saw those photos, that would be another interesting set up for an episode.
Now concerning the scene where the CMC were asked to bring Diamond Tiara with them, even when I was that age, I wouldn't want to bring someone who bullies me along. The ending really bugged me, making me think everything leading up to it was so Diamond Tiara could find any excuse to say that they don't hang out with any famous ponies at all and wouldn't be able to steal the attention of everypony else, which they weren't even trying to do in the first place. The CMC wanted to be big shots based on their skill, not on who they knew, unless the girls potential skills they'd develop later on was actually what Diamond Tiara was trying to prevent, then I would say valiant effort on that part, but it doesn't make me like her any more than before. I am actually thinking of making a one shot fanfic to extend upon what should have happened after all the fillies and colts took off from Twilight's place.
Like I said, it was just one of those episodes that is so-so, not the best, but certainly not the worst. That is enough nit picking on my part. I would like to hear your thoughts on the show, and please don't hesitate to comment. I like to hear all points of view, and I'm sure you all have good arguments, and I would like to hear them.
Thank you.
Trixie or Flash Sentry learning of Twilight's bad table manners? Sounds like a fanfic waiting to happen.
Um, Trixie yes, Flash Sentry no. Try again.
