Found Something Neat - Old Who Audio Books · 7:49pm Feb 11th, 2014
I'm not referring to the "Big Finish" audio stories that were released since the 90s. In this case, I'm referring to classic Doctor Who episodes/stories released as audio books you buy/download.
More importantly, you can get audio books for the lost serials of Doctor Who. Most, if not all, of those stories that are no longer complete in video form still had the audio preserved due in part to pre-VCR viewers doing what they could to record the show as it aired. As I type I've been listening to "The Daleks Master Plan", which only has video of three episodes out of about thirteen. I'm about halfway through (on episode five).
The audio books keep the spoken dialogue and some sound effects from the original episode, with narration provided for action and scene description.
Been seriously enjoying it so far.
Wow, its hard to believe how long some of those old stories really were, Everything now is about instant gratification. Those must have been the days.
That said, I have to say that the one hour approach makes filler episodes easier to watch. It all depends on how the format is used, I guess.

"The Daleks' Master Plan" is unique in its length. Twelve twenty or so minute episodes. Thirteen if you count a "prequel" episode. Most of the old serials average about 4 episodes long, with some going up to six.
Some of serials can be pretty slow paced and/or prone to filler in some cases. Still, most are pretty decent overall.
Soundtracks actually exist for all the missing stories, thankfully. Glad to hear you're enjoying them, Daleks Masterplan is ace.
