“Ah, and that must be our little grandchild. Why, hello there, little filly.” Dazzle picked Twilight up in her magic, just for the foal to start struggling and whine loudly. “Relax, child, I’m your grandmother. I’m your father’s mother.” Twilight stopped for a second before wailing even louder. “Oh, come now, I just want to give you a small peck.” She levitated the struggling filly closer to her. Twilight yelped and suddenly disappeared in a purple flash, reappearing on Velvet’s back. The foal stuck out her tongue towards her grandmother before burrowing closer to her mother’s protective back.
“Seems she doesn’t like you,” Velvet said, trying and failing to keep the glee from her voice. Before Dazzle could retort, there was a knock at the door. “Ah, I think my parents are here.” She left the open-mouthed Dazzle standing and opened the door.
I take it Velvet doesn't get along with her mother-in-law
Looks like velvet's going to have a spring in her step for a bit.

1729853 After reading Twilight's Life, you'll know that they don't. Let's say that it was because of bad first impressions involving Velvet being a rebel teen with a punkish appearance when she started dating Night Light.
Stating that Twilight doesn't like her seems a little harsh. Granted that I don't know the context, but Twilight's reactions seems perfectly reasonable for a small child. She knows her mother and is comfortable around but doesn't really know the stranger. And her mother is probably a little tense at this moment in time. So, of course, safety comes first. Although the sticking out the tongue seems a little odd from that point of view.
