Musings of a Wedding Videographer: Going Into the Slow Season

So after a busy wedding season full of repeat clients, old clients friends getting married and booking me, saving the day time and time again with my Mary Poppins Bag, training new videographers, and being asked to take a picture of a bride sitting on the porta-potty, I am now entering into the slow wedding season. Time for a well deserved breather!

    Story Discussion: New Content

I have been getting some really wonderful feedback from someone named LovinLife, and I can’t thank this user enough for the praise and criticism. While his (her?) praises have helped boost my desires to keep writing, his criticism has given me good reason to go back over my work to make it stronger.

    IRL: I Heart GoPro

Boy, do I love staying busy at work! I decided that we need a backlog of GoPro footage to use at work, and have tackled it head on. I have been coming home super tired, which has cut into my writing, but the upside is that this project has been making a big difference at work.

Story Discussion: Smithy the High Diver

So, Applejack just got her key, and we find out that our Granny Smith was once a high diver. While that does mess with my story, it has potential to make things better.

Think about it: a high diving act in a traveling circus is a good cover for smuggling illegal goods. This could make for an interesting development for the Faction of the Stud.

IRL: I'm in a Video at Etrailer.com, and it's Awful!

So I work online helping make product videos. Most of the time, I just edit, but every so often, I shoot videos. Well, I work by the philosophy of 'see a need, fill a need' and we needed to do this video for pad locks. And guess who they stuck in front of the camera.

Story Discussion: Auntie Velvet or Uncle Fairly Rich? · 4:41pm Jan 13th, 2014

I love how writing can give you options, but sometimes those options can throw you for a loop. I am in that loop boat right now.

I am rewriting the ending of The Private Scrapbook right now, and intended for Filthy Rich to return to Sweet Apple Acres because of financial hardships in Dodge City. To show how the Equestrian economy suffered from slave emancipation, I intend to have the Dodge City Building and Loan go bankrupt, causing a scandal similar to the bank scandal from It's a Wonderful Life. The only thing stumping me is Filthy Rich’s aunt and uncle.

To put a face with a war, I intend to have Fairly Rich drafted, leaving his wife, Velvet, in charge of the family business. I haven't decided if I want him to die in the war, leaving his business to his widow and nephew, or have him come back handicap, only to have his wife leave him. I do want Filthy Rich to only have one to look after him during the bank scandal. I just can't decide which: grieving widow caught in a bankruptcy scandal or disabled war veteran's wife stealing from the bank and leaving him causing bankruptcy scandal. Either way, the aunt or uncle will become our story's 'Uncle Billy' from It's a Wonderful Life for the final arc I intend to write.

I plan to take down the last two chapters and works cited chapter for the time being until the arc is done, an arc I have nicknamed the George Bailey arc since much of Filthy Rich’s character will be based on bad decisions a la It's a Wonderful Life. Those chapters will help in making the last two chapters more sense after the new arc is finished. Before the George Bailey arc is written, I intend to flesh out the end of the current arc involving the new contract so that it won't feel so rushed.

With that being said, you the reader can help me find my Uncle Billy. So who would be better: Auntie Velvet or Uncle Fairly Rich? Grieving widow or screwed over disabled veteran?

Imma say disabled veteran. I think it would give more character depth.

Thank you for your feedback! I am leaning towards him too in a lot of ways too, but wasn't sure if a cat fight between the girls would be better than dealing father figures.

1718408 Yes, but think of the wisdom he could provide for his son!
