Why? I don't even know. · 10:57pm May 8th, 2012
Well, decided to clean up the "favorites" list by "unfavoriting" every story that I have yet to read and moved it to "Read Later". So now I have 26 unread "favorites" and 26 "Read Later" stories.
In other news, don't you just hate stories that have a good premise but terrible execution? They keep me engrossed cause I always think "maybe the author will figure out English and how to pace the story in the next chapter." Though then the next chapter comes along and I am like "OH NO, it is a Gary Sue/Mary Sue, maybe next chapter..." And that is how I have slogged through some grotesque stuff.
I have 193 stories in Read It Later and 1063 unread chapters in my favorites dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Twilight_Sparkle_lolface.png

I just came here to see your page, given your comments on my tale... What I got was this. I... I like it.
108085
Yeeeaaaahhhh... I kinda don't make sense. So, if you feel like participating, you have been warned. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Queen_Chrysalis.png
108115 I'm good. I was just curious about your page, so I took a look. I saw this blog post, so I decided to see the comments, hoping for something intelligent. Instead I got this...
Anyway, what do you think of my tales? Do they fall into the category of good, or do I need to 'figure out English and how to pace the story in the next chapter.'?
108116
Oh no, if I finished reading and actually took the time to write something (cause it is so hard) on multiple chapters, your work is at the very least passable. Though your stories are much better then many here, though in other stories defense, I have only recently been able to branch out and read works that have very few up votes. Many of those I can't even force my way through the first chapter, it's almost as if I have to download the narrative and edit it myself. Though I will admit some of your stories need pacing, the writing and word usage keep them enjoyable. However, if you want I can read through something and be brutally honest on what I think (after finals). Though, up to you. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_TwilightWut.png
108149 That sounds good. I'm always looking to get more feedback. I'm in no rush, so you can go and take your finals first.
108376
You are too kind.
108149
I actually have read a few stories had a lot of down votes, but was actually very good. It would seem they got down voted becoause the majority of readers disagreed with actions ect. in the story. but.. for the most part, i avoid them unless they sound really interesting.
You sir, have more willpower then me. While bad English doesn't really turn me away, Poor execution via marie sue or poor continuation does quickly.... that and if I just think its not very interesting. Having a short attention span does that.
113138
You are up far to early for me time (by my watch you posted somewhere around 9:20 in the morning, that's just crazy).
I have actually slogged through like 5 chapters of some poorly executed stories that are rushed and the characters do not behave anything like the ones from the show. The premise seemed promising, vampony Twilight, Elements of Chaos, brony as a Draconequus; the English and poorly constructed thoughts, however, dragged the stories into the mire. I hate leveling things unfinished, but sometimes I just had to drop the stories 6 chapters in and halfway through the seventh since no change was in sight. Though, the good news is it left me open to find and read more stories.
113599
I think it was 6:20 when i posted that. But it wasn't early for me, but really, really late. A full night of writing ponies left me feeling something a little like this:
th07.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2011/290/0/b/crazy_twilight_by_argorine-d4d1dwv.png
I think that sums it up pretty well.
How you survive that long through that, i will never know. Did some of them pull through in the end? make the journey of muck worth it?
113642
Staying up late writing, I only stay up late doing school work (note: never be an engineer). I can't bring myself to write anything considering I see it as a failure before I start, I am a terrible self critic.
And to answer your question, no, none seemed to turn themselves around (maybe one 2nd person story, but it was passable to begin with). If I start scrolling through a chapter picking out a couple words from each paragraph and not being surprised, I drop the story and realize I wasted some time.
113685
I am also a terrible self critic. It took a lot of encouragement to get me to start writing, even then (and now) I worry, but encouraging words of my proof readers keeps me going.
Start picking out a couple misspelt words? or a couple legible words?
I Know my grammar is bad, so I take a lot of steps to improve and make sure none will slip past when finalizing! I Don't want it to end up like some of the horrors I have found in the bowels of fanfiction.
113723
I have fun with grammar and word usage since I was pretty horrendous with it in my younger years (cause I am SO old right now). I also just have fun writing in ways that are correct yet have not been used as often as others. English may have many annoying little rules but it does have many synonyms and interesting ways to structure each sentence.
Also, what did you mean by "Start picking out a couple misspelt words? or a couple legible words? ", the meaning and who it is directed at alludes me.
113767
I wasn't exactly sure what you meant by. "If I start scrolling through a chapter picking out a couple words from each paragraph and not being surprised, I drop the story and realize I wasted some time. "
Plus i passed out shortly after posting that, so who knows what i was really thinking?
114663
Oh, I can see how that could have been confusing, my bad for not clarifying further. Who knows what I do right before passing out, if past experience can be used as an example, one would be watching an animated show about little colorful ponies. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Lyra2.png
Oh hai there. I seem to have stumbled across your page (your icon caught my eye, haha c;). In response to your blog post however, I feel the same. It's pretty agonizing to read a story with a great idea but it doesn't have all that much...uh... English...in it.
Even worse is that I read all these stories and get all these ideas for my own stories (not that I have any at the moment) that I would love to write, but I would feel like I'm leeching too much on the other authors out there.
Also agreeing with other comments, it's really hard for me to get started on a story, and it's harder still to keep going; I get bored with my own stories pretty easily (but I've only created ~3 stories through my internet / fanfiction lifetime, so who am I to say).
248372
I know what you mean with all the story ideas. I have gotten the urge to try and write something but I generally bring out the pessimism hammer to squash it before I do something crazy (like sit down and try to brainstorm a plot). I really can't comment on how to keep yourself going, but I do have experience, as stated earlier, in how to stop yourself from starting (cause that is a good way to go through life).
249004
Sometimes I read a story and then get an idea for a story of my own, but then I realize that it's basically the story I just read (or, part of it anyway). Howitzer's story was one of them (I just started reading it when I had the "idea"). I was like: "I'll write a story about an OC coming to Equestria with most of the mane six in love with him, with him going to Twilight for help to 'bail him out'!", but that is basically Howitzer's story with just the romantic parts.
249254
I am currently reading the "Rising Sun" by Howitzer and I am finding it hard to get through. The base premise kinda annoys, Storm Runner seems to be a bit of a Gary Sue to me, things just seem to squeaky clean to me. Though it could change, I am only on chapter 23 so far. I really liked the one with Luna, and the current one with Applejack really gets me worked up (can't stand people/ponies taken advantage of); so I am hoping things get explained.
252841
I figured out what a Gary / Mary Sue is, and I've been kind of thinking of Storm being one of those as well. He seems to be able to solve pretty much everything, as far as I can tell (I am up to date, on chapter 40). I'm kind of confused of what you said about how you liked the one with Luna and the Applejack situation. Are you still talking about "Rising Sun" or are you talking about another story of his, such as "The Color of Apples" (and if you are, then I don't think I've read the Luna story)?
I don't particularly like it when people get taken advantage of either (which couldn't help but remind me of the Gilda episode).

And as a side note, it's been a week already.
