    Soon!

I think I've used that blog title three or four times now.

Anyway! New chapter of Spectacular Seven is almost done! I was hoping it would be done this week so I could post it on Saturday, but I need to rewrite a scene. And that's before I edit it! And before Drakey edits it! The good news is...

    Ten Years, Still Here

I think back to my nascent days here, reading stories and typing out my own, hoping for the day where I could call myself a veteran of the fandom. My stories would be remembered and I would stand alongside authors like Pen stroke and Aragon.

And I look where I am now and go, ‘well, you got one big hit. Good enough.’

    Thank You

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the GoFundMe or spread the word for it. It really means a lot. Thanks to your donations and getting a little more on my first paycheck than I thought I would, I should be able to stay afloat again.

Albinocorn Reviews: Season 4, Episode 7: BATS! · 10:04am Dec 30th, 2013

McCarthy, you clever little sneak you. Putting an actual episode title way back in the April Fools joke you tried to pull on us.

She seems to have a knack for telling us half-truths, or hiding things in context.

I wonder how much she's told us and we just haven't realized it yet?

Maybe there's still a chance I can appear in season 5!

We can dream. But before I get carried off in my fantasies, let's review this thing! Unfortunately, part of it was spoiled when I went to go look for the episode. You guys work fast with the art and such, don't you?

Apples! Apples! Apples!

So, I guess it's just a fact that any Applejack episode is required to be centered around apples. The only one that breaks from this mold is the Last Roundup, which it seems most of you only remember for Derpy. Poor AJ, forced to be known only for her obsession with apples and her terrible lying. My best pony spot may be already filled, but you're really high up there, Aj.

Applejack and the giant apple.

Damn, for some reason, Applejack looks adorable in that frame. I can't stand it, stop being cute!

Sorry, but that's physically impossible. We're born adorable and pretty much stay that way, no matter what.

You'd give me diabetes if I had a heart.

Applejack = Batmare

Yeah, that's pretty much confirmed at this point. Anyway, SONG TIME! Applejack and, as an even rarer treat, Fluttershy sing in a wonderful duet. Though, just about every song in MLP is wonderful.... except Giggle at the Ghosties. Could never get behind that one.

Very song. Much drama. So Broadway. Wow.

So, we've got two opposing sides here. Applejack wants them dead gone, and Fluttershy thinks there's a nicer solution, even going as far as to suggest a sanctuary for them. There are merits to both sides of the argument, but I think I have to agree with Applejack. Fluttershy, if you can't talk to them, how are you suppose to tell them to just stay in their little sanctuary. Not to mention what'll happen when they breed too much...

Hmm, I wonder if you could train a baby fruit bat and keep it as a pet.

I changed my mind, these things are ugly.

Random thought, if there are vampire fruit bats, are there timber werewolves too?

That would actually be kinda cool. You know, till you get bit.

I really like their manes!

History lesson! Yeah, these bats just seem like nuisances. Sorry, Flutters, I know your heart's in the right place, but these things gotta go. I kinds like seeing this opposition between Fluttershy and Applejack. I don't think they've ever really interacted like this before. Now I'm just waiting for Rainbow and Rarity.

Realistically, can horses legs bend that way?

Hmm, yeah, Don't think we're meant to do that. Oh, and Dash has a drinking problem. Like, a serious one.

Yeah, but it is a nice call back to season 2. I'm enjoying this continuity. Speaking of which, it seems the ponies have concocted a plan to chase the bats off... by preforming a similar spell Twilight had tried on the Parasprites way back in season 1. Because that so worked the first time.

Come on, Twilight's a princess now. She's grown in her magic and learned from her mistakes... I hope.

Such light. Much concentrate— Stop.

Well, after the pretty light show, it seems the fruit bats no longer have an interest in the apples. And then they ate the barn! Wait, wrong episode.

Note, the barn did not get destroyed this episode. Anyone else shocked?

So, problem resolved. We can all go home now, and Applejack can buck her apples... right?

...Right?

Trouble in apple paradise! Again! Seems someone is still sucking on apple juice. But if it's not the bats, then who could it be? Curse you spoilers! But before I get ahead of myself...

Drill, baby, drill!

I remember when I used to loathe Pinkie. Like the Crusaders, I found her annoying and over the top. Then I rewatched all of the episodes and listened to Smile, Smile, Smile, and fell in love with her like the rest of them. And when she continues to do stuff like this, she rises higher on my best pony list. BUT WHY IS IT SO HARD TO WRITE YOU IN FANFICTION! DAMMIT PINKIE!

Hmm, this seems familiar.

Magic beacons! Totes awesome! Glad I already used it.

Alright, I suppose I should stop beating around the bush. I know why most of you are really here, you want to know what I think of...

THIS!

Well, to sum it up nicely: Flutterbat>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Flutterhulk.

Execution: Faaaaar better handled. Believable: Very much so. Appearance: Awesome. This thing is everything Flutterhulk tried to be, except it succeeded.

Yep, still cute.

Told you we can make anything look adorable.

So this was a wonderfully fun twist. Looks like Twilight still needs some magic practice. Congrats, Twi, you turned your best friend into a vampire pony. Oh, and I better find some good fanfics of this. This is gold material right here, people!

While I did enjoy this debacle, It kinda started to feel a tad repetitive. It was mostly just Fluttershy swooping and everypony else failing to catch her. Seriously, guys? You can gather a hundred tiny bats, but not one batpony?

Telekinesis, paralysis, sleep, pocket space! You have magic Twilight, use it!

Though I guess there's only so much you can do with this in a children's show. And then there's that damn time constraint. Oh well, for what it's worth, it was pretty good.

Stopped by her own adorable reflection.

Wait, if she's a vampire, shouldn't she not have a reflection?

Uhhh....

You can't explain that.

Moving on.

"You ate half my orchard! Hahahahahaha!"

So, another episode ends with a group laugh, and we learn the value of listening to your friends, and telling them when they might be wrong. Unfortunately, I'm going to half to agree with JustAnotherTimeLord and wonder, what was the point of Spike in this episode? He really did not contribute anything until this point at the end. But, I guess it is nice just to have him included. Maybe eventually the seventh wheel feeling will just wear off.

Dun dun dunnnn!

More speculative cliffhangers! These aren't as much fun when I'm not the one making them. What is the implication of this? Will it be addressed later on? Will Fluttershy gain new vampire powers? Are the writers just trolling us for laughs? Will we find out who the shadow pony is? Should I stop listing questions?

Yes.

Right. Well that brings us to the end of episode seven. Wow, just last season we were lamenting at the fact that we were already halfway through, and the rumors of Princess Twilight Sparkle were cropping up. Now, we're not even a quarter of the way there and most of us have come to accept our new alicorn. How times have changed.

For a great musical and Flutterbat, Sunset and I give this episode a 10/10, will watch it again.

Yep, it was great. Now, don't you have some work to be doing?

Yes, Albinocorn, away!

Best episode of season four yet... almost. Flight to the Finish still stands out for me the most.
Although, My best pony did get even better. Have you seen this yet???
:pinkiegasp::yay::raritystarry::heart:

Definitely disagree with you on this whole 10/10 business. Also, McCarthy didn't make this episode. Supposedly, there was an error, and the person who really did this episode was Meriweather, the girl who did the Spike episode where he crittersat(?) . . . critters, which was a really botched episode.

Agreed! Loved this episode and Flutterbat. Though I found Flutterhulk to be awesome and hilarious,

1663964 To each their own I suppose. I'm not too harsh of a grader.

InsertAuthorHere seems to think that a lot of people who loved this episode when they thought Meghan wrote it suddenly changed their opinions and hated it, when they found out that Merriwhether wrote it instead. Almost like they have to hate it on principle. If that's true, it's a very sad fact.

1664900 I really hope that's not true. Everyone seems to dislike Merriwhether for writing Mare-Do-Well and ignore the fact that she wrote Hearths Warming Eve, which was fantastic. And I mean they dislike her, not just her writing style. :ajbemused:

I enjoyed watching it, but I have my qualms. I gave it a 7/10.
