Knighty must be corrected for his wrong; to arms, (metaphorically) Americans! · 12:12am Dec 15th, 2013
Knighty feels he can stomp on freedom of speech. Well, he's British, so his constitution is different from the one in the U.S.A.
He claims that because FIMFiction is privately owned, users have no right to freedom of speech! BULLSHIT!
Here's what he said to me in a message:
You have no freedom of speech on Fimfiction. It is a privately owned website, not a public place. Therefore I as the owner have total discretion as to what is allowed here.
In America, whether or not something is privately owned, freedom of speech trumps all! Why? Because freedom of speech was promised in the constitution, and as we all learned in elementary school, the constitution is the supreme law of the land that trumps EVERYTHING.
Don't allow this bullshit to happen! Comment on this blog that you agree something must be done about Knighty's dictatorship! Stand up for what's right!
Honestly, due to him owning and controlling the site, his reason does make sense.
However, I do not agree at all with his morals. Even if he couldn't have Freedom of Speech, does that mean he must place that restriction on others?
Is the Internet not a place where people can escape from reality?
Even if there is Freedom of Speech, there can still be restrictions based on reasons for behavior rather than speech.
1607460 The reason of just "I can do what I want because I created a website?"
It's easy to create a website! Does he not understand that a lot of people could easily recreate this website, and then some, in just a month, at most?
We could take away his powers in a second, and repost all stories on said new website, and he could be banned as soon as he joins the website.
But that would make us like him, so we don't. So instead, we stay here; trying our best to put up with his b.s. and move along. But now, he's crossed the line.
Screw his reasoning, it's time for something to be done. If no one will protest this, then maybe I'll just go to PFA. We all know that site's pretty much dead, but at least Knighty won't be there to screw me over.
1607473 Indeed.
We just want to do what we want as long as it doesn't cross any moral boundaries.
At the very most, skirting on the edge of the cliff is not crossing it.
For now, before I start a debate with somebody by being on Fimfic too long, I'll go eat. I wish you much luck in this endeavor.
This is some pretty good satire.
I love this. This should be a T-shirt.
1608647>>1608570>>1608387 I'm quite serious, actually. This is some bullshit, and I don't stand for British fuckwads trampling on the constitution that was established because of their bullshit.
This site has a predominantly American user base, so I'm pretty sure I would have more support for this cause after a few weeks.
P.S. Actually, Wanderer, it is pretty easy to create a website. I made three in my freshman year of high school! It's not hard at all. If you want, you can look up the PDF files of McPearson's book on how to create a website.
1609654 It's not about how simple it is. It's the thought that you can create in a month a site with 80k+ users out of the blue.
1609825 I never said anything about garnering that many users. I just said replicating a site like this in a month is no challenge. Getting the user base, now, that's something else.
That would probably take a couple of years, just like it did Knighty.
Or just stop trolling because of "muh freedoms."
1609654
I refuse to believe this isn't you fucking with us. There's no way.
1610673 Actually, yes, the whole class did. We had to make one for ourselves, posting pictures of family and friends, then we had to make on for a friend or relative that had died or moved away, and a third one for whatever we wanted.
Trust me, it's not as hard as what you may think. It's just grinding through small programs and commands until the website functions. You can open notepad right now and create a simple website in 2 hours. It's not difficult, try it. Knighty isn't a god or a special human being for creating a simple website like this.
1611003
I guess you're not factoring in the javascript, jQuery, Ajax, MySQL and god knows what else goes into making the site work. It's fine, though. You're more than welcome to try and create a Fimfiction alternative with your high school level web design education.
1611157 High school education?
No sir, I have a freshman level college education with computers/web design. Those other programs you're talking about? Those aren't necessary at all; they're entirely optional!
See, that's how I know you never tried to make a website. I made all three of my past websites with notepad and notepad alone.

Alright. Program a functional comment system with updating timestamps and media integration using only Notepad and HTML. I'll be waiting.
1611242 Fair enough. But you know I can't publish any of the websites without purchasing a server, which I won't do just to prove a point to a troll moderator. So how do you intend for me to prove this to you?
EDIT: Actually nevermind, here you go:
if(isset($_POST['submit']))
{
$handle = fopen("text.txt", "a+") or die("can't open file");
$name = $_POST['name'];
$content = $_POST['commentcontent'];
fwrite($handle, $name , $content );
fclose($handle);
}
<form method="POST" action="<?=$_SERVER['PHP_SELF']?>">
<input type=text name="name" id="name">
<input type=text name="commentcontent" id="commentcontent">
<button type="submit" value="submit" name="submit" class="btn">submit</button>
</form>
OWNED. Now, this is a simple one, but it still only took me like 5 minutes to write out this code.
1611249
No media integration, no updating timestamps, uses more than HTML, and it looks like shit to boot.
You were saying?
1611297 I was saying OWNED. It still works, and I did it in 5 minutes.
1612930
I think you missed the part where it doesn't do half the things I said.
1613711 Mmm no, it does a lot of things I said it would do.
What exactly am I missing here?
1616134
This was your checklist:
- Automatically Updating Timestamps
- Media Integration (Video, Hyperlinks, Pictures)
- Only HTML
- Only Notepad
Only the last one was fulfilled. Probably.
Now, if you want to get fancier, throw in the options to change text size, colors, quote other posts, and added formatting like bold, italics, and underlines. Also, have the original poster be identified with a change of color to their name, avatars should be available, and different permissions should be granted based on what level the user of the comment system is.
Designing websites is easy, right? Surely you can throw together a comment system like that in notepad.
1616202 I can, but I've been sick the past couple of days and I still am. I don't really want to work on it right now, but I won't b.s. you.
I failed your challenge, and for that I bend the knee. But Knighty is still someone I would rather not discuss in a positive tone, no matter how popular he is or great he is at doing something I can do better (when I'm not sick, of course)
