Progress Update · 8:16am Nov 9th, 2013
So, after a little bit of a break, I've stopped procrastinating and actually started on the first chapter of the sequel to the Sword Coast. I don't know when I'll actually begin publishing chapters, but I can't wait to have people reading them, and I'd like to start publishing the sequel as soon as it is practical.
In the next couple of weeks, Tales of the Sword Coast should be seeing two more updates that I've had written but unpolished for a while now.
The Sword Coast is next in line for review on this blog, but the reviewer is on hiatus so I have no idea when I'll actually get to see the review. There's some interesting stuff in there, and if you'd like to find some good fanfics that a pony fiction enthusiast enjoyed, this is a great place to go.
I'm really proud of my second EQD feature, Until the Moon Rises. It was written on a prompt, and it took a good night's rest and about four hours of typing from the conception of the idea to the completion of the first draft. I'm surprised it got the positive reception that it did. I've never been able to write short stories before; usually, all of my ideas for stories end up as big convoluted messes that could never be resolved in less than 15k words, but I've got an idea for another stewing, and I might actually write it soon. I always write for fun, and I tend to enjoy big epic plotlines, but one-shots do tend to have more bang for their buck as far as visibility goes than longer stories. Hell, maybe if I submit another story to EQD, I'll get one of those fancy pre-reader quotes.
Out of curiosity, I wonder if wedging "Featured on EQD" somewhere in the story description actually generates any interest on Fimfiction. I guess it means at least one other sapient individual has read the story and liked it, but it seems like a lot of people hate EQD and the pre-reader staff, though that might just be one of those vocal minorities. As for me, of the 3 stories I've published on Fimfiction (not counting sequels/side stories), 2 met the minimum word count requirement, and both were featured on EQD after getting sent back once for revisions. I don't want to brag (totally bragging), but neither of them received an actual strike. Maybe I just got lucky, but I've yet to have the bad pre-reader experience that people seem to have. Thoughts?
Thank you all for your interest in silly pony fanfictions written by some guy on the internet (me). You're the best. I hope to see you again soon.
PS: If you haven't read my last blog post, the Royal Canterlot Library is a blog showcasing some really great fanfictions from the MLP fandom. I'd really (really) like to get featured there, but I can't do it without your help, as they do not allow authors to submit their own stories (they'd quickly be swamped). Their story recommendation thread is here.
Edit: Oh, and I almost forgot, Until the Moon Rises now has a Dramatic Reading, courtesy of Goombasa. Fan created content! I'm a real boy now.
Glad to hear you're working on the sequel, I am impatient to start reading!
Concerning the pre-reader, NONE of the authors I follow had any problem or bad experience with them. I suspect the ones who do have troubles with the pre-readers suffer mainly from entitlement issues.
Mah story is da best! !! It deserves to be on eqd why r u so mean !?!
All the good authors I know of only have very professional and constructive exchanges with them to report, so no, you aren't that special in this light
On putting "EQD Featured!" in Story descriptions: I find it more of a statistic than anything else. It's interesting to know, and I don't mind if it's there, but considering how fickle the EQD prereaders can be... meh.
