Things I'd like to see on MLP: Special Guests and Voice Actors · 3:01am Oct 25th, 2013

With the fourth season premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic less than a month away, it's got me thinking of things I'd like to see on MLP in the next and subsequent seasons, if they come to pass. First off, what kind of guest stars and voice actors would I like to see on MLP.

Now, I'm going to strive to be very realistic here. Deep in my heart, I'd like to see many of my favorite actors do spots on MLP (Lana Parilla from Once Upon a Time for example has a wonderful sounding voice). However, from what I understand, voice acting is considered the lowest rung of the acting ladder in Hollywood. If you've watched as many animated shows as I've had, you'd notice that most of these shows select their actors from the same general pool. Big name talent don't really do animation unless it's a Disney movie. And sometimes Disney and other really big name cartoons. (I was surprised to see Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock fame star on Disney's cartoon series Wander Over Yonder. As well as Jason Biggs as Leonardo on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.) Some of you may know the story that when Lauren Faust came up with the idea for Discord, she originally thought that a voice actor impersonating John De Lancie would fill the role. When they found out they could actually get John De Lancie, they of course did. The fact that they did that, albeit once, is a source for hope. The Hub seems to have a fair bit of clout. They got Eric McCormack of all people to star on Pound Puppies.

Without further ado, here's my list of people I'd like to see on MLP.

David Tennant

I once saw David Tennant listed on a poll on Equestria Daily asking who you'd like to see guest star on MLP. We Whovians in the Brony fandom know David Tennant as the 10th Doctor on Doctor Who. Everyone else might recognize him from his role as Barty Crouch Jr. in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. By now, it's very clear that the writers behind MLP are aware of the connection the fandom has made between the 10th Doctor and this background pony.

It is certainly clear in the MLP comic books.

Yes that last one is the Pony Doctor with a sonic screwdriver.

Even though David Tennant is far from a household name this side of the pond, I still feel he's probably too big a star to get for MLP. Plus I'm not even that certain if anyone at the BBC is aware and is willing to capitalize on the Brony Whovian sub-fandom. Then again, "A Town Called Mercy" did have a joke about the Doctor knowing how to speak horse, but you can't really tell if that has anything to do with that. So, I wouldn't look forward to David Tennant appearing on MLP anytime soon.

The ironic thing about all this is that apparently Lauren Faust has never seen Doctor Who.

"Weird Al" Yankovic

Bronies are a nerdy bunch. And if you're a nerd, than you've definitely heard of accordionist and comedy and parody songwriter "Weird Al" Yankovic! He may seem like kind of a big name for MLP. Weird Al though has worked for Hasbro in the past. He wrote the song "Dare to be Stupid" for the 1986 film The Transformers: The Movie and voiced the character Wreck-Gar on Transformers: Animated.

Most of all though. Weird Al actually knows a guy who does some of the background music for MLP and has expressed interest in guest starring on the show.

This a hope that goes back to Season 2. Hopefully, sometime in the future, they'll get around to finally doing it. If Weird Al does finally do this, there's a couple of things I'd like to see. I would like his character to play a major role in the episode. He'd also have to sing a song that he has written that must then be released on one of this albums some time in the future. Imagine the genius of Weird Al collaborating with Daniel Ingram!

Jonathan Frakes

You probably know Jonathan Frakes for starring on Star Trek: The Next Generation where John De Lancie often guest starred as Q. But he's done voice acting for animated works, mostly for laughs on Futurama and Family Guy. But he was apparently in an episode of Adventure Time with Finn and Jake, another cartoon with a significant adult fanbase. But most of all in the realm of animation, Frakes is known for playing the villain (and then anti-hero I think. I think was reformed at some point) David Xanatos on Disney's cartoon Gargoyles.

What are the chances that the people behind MLP are familiar with Gargoyles? Well I didn't realize it until DustyKatt brought it up in Bronies React: Equestria Girls, but Sunset Shimmer's demon form looks a lot like Demona from Gargoyles.

See.

With John De Lancie firmly entrenched as a member of the MLP family, I'm sure he could convince Jonathan Frakes to appear on MLP if they wanted him. It would amazingly ironic if he were to portray a character either somehow connected with Discord or a gargoyle like monster.

Peter Cullen

Peter Cullen is the first on this list who is a prolific voice actor. To me, he has one of the most famous voices in the world. I probably don't have to explain that Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime in the original Transformers cartoon, reprised the role for Michael Bay's Transformers films, and also reprised the role for Transformers: Prime. However, he also appeared a number of times on the original G1 My Little Pony in various little roles. With a voice talent like Peter Cullen, he'd need a big role on MLP. If they ever do an episode where we get a glimpse into the past or Twilight travels to the past or something and we meet Star Swirl the Bearded, I think Peter Cullen should voice Star Swirl the Bearded.

It would be so totally and perfectly awesome!

Charlie Adler

Charlie Adler is another prolific voice actor. Adler has done voice work in countless cartoons for the past thirty years. He might be most famous for voicing Starscream in the original Transformers cartoon series and for reprising that role for Michael Bay's Transformers films. However, he did not reprise the role for Transformers: Prime for some odd reason, even though Peter Cullen and Frank Welker reprised their roles as Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively. What you may not know is that Charlie Adler voiced the original Spike from the G1 My Little Pony cartoons.

I think it would be cool if he showed up on MLP and voiced a dragon that plays a major role in an episode. Maybe he could even be related to Spike!

John DiMaggio

John DiMaggio is another prolific voice actor, although much more contemporary. DiMaggio is probably best known for voicing the characters of Bender on Futurama, Dr. Drakken on Kim Possible, and Jake the Dog on Adventure Time with Finn and Jake. These days he also voices the character Niblet on The Hub's Pound Puppies. You might be aware that an inordinate number of the voice actors on MLP also star on the Hub's other series Littlest Pet Shop. To a certain extent, the Hub recycles its voice actors. (This may apply to Peter Cullen as well.) John DiMaggio has already also appeared on the Hub's other series Transformers: Prime and Dan Vs. It wouldn't be surprising if they decided to put him on MLP too. And I think that would be awesome. Plus, John DiMaggio is already familiar with the material as he and number of other voice actors did a blind reading of "Boast Busters" at the Canterlot Gardens convention.

Out of all these people, the ones with the best chances of ending up on MLP are "Weird Al" Yankovic and John DiMaggio. Everyone else I mostly fantasize about being on MLP. But a Brony can dream.

Let me know if you would also like to see any of these people on MLP. Do you have your own choices for guest stars for MLP? Or do you think I'm wrong about all of this and can explain to me why?

God bless you all. God bless America. And God bless Equestria.

They should go meta as fuck and have Lauren Faust voice a character.

1450823 That could be kind of awesome, if they can make that happen. :pinkiehappy:

She could appear as the Fausticorn and be creator of Equestria! :raritystarry: And that's how Equestria was made.

Those are all some interesting choices. I'd love to see David Tennant but he's probably too busy with other projects to go and voice a character on MLP. :ajsleepy:

I've heard lots of rumors about Weird Al discussing plans with the makers of MLP to have him voice a character in an episode. If that were to happen, it would definitely have to be both a musical episode and a Pinkie Pie episode. I mean, a musical episode starring Pinkie Pie and Weird Al Yankovic is a match made in batsh*t-crazy heaven! :pinkiehappy::pinkiecrazy:

1451017 Yes, a musical episode with Pinkie Pie and Weird Al would be perfect! :pinkiehappy:

You know Issue 5 of the My Little Pony Micro-Series comic is about Pinkie Pie and a famous pony clown. I haven't read it yet though. Maybe they could put that clown on the show and he'd be voiced by Weird Al!
