I'm sure every author out there knows that feeling. You know the one; where that Submit button is staring you in the face and you have to confront the daunting challenge of actually clicking it for the first time. 'Is it really ready?' you ask yourself. 'Am I ready for it to be seen?' is another big question.
Well, I finally clicked it. My first FiM story is out there in the wild. This one's an ambitious sucker too. I've written stuff before, but this one's the toughest one I've ever put together. So many plots running at once. So many things to bring together to create that perfect blend of logical progression and complete insanity. I'm pretty confident that I can avoid turning it into a jumbled mess, but working with so many characters means putting a lot of words down.
Of course, if you're reading this today, you already know about that particular project. I'm sure it's what brought you here. Hopefully you're wondering when I'll release more of it. The good news is that the whole thing is planned out and most of it is written. Very little is properly edited though, and since I mostly do that myself, it takes a while. Hell, I spend hours just getting the formatting right. As for how long it'll be, I'm not gonna say. The nature of the story demands that it be massive though. Not George R. R. Martin massive, mind you—that guy takes 300 pages just to clear his damn throat—but around reasonable length for a novel.
That said, I'll confess that I think Chapter 1 leaves something to be desired. So much exposition to lay down. So much groundwork to lay. I can only hope it turned out well enough to convince people to keep reading until I'm done editing Chapter 2, which I had a lot more fun writing.
Feel free to drop any sort of criticism you like. I have thick skin (some might even call it bulletproof, but that would mean I'd have to stop writing and become a super villain hero) and even if I disagree with you, it's always good to know what people are thinking. I'd like to know exactly what people think I do well and what they feel are my weaknesses.
In other news, I'm a little self-conscious about the lack of cover art. I couldn't find anything that captured the tone of the project and I have no talent for creating such things. Hopefully something will turn up eventually.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy There Goes the Neighborhood. I may release a couple of one-shots in-between chapters, but this one will have almost all of my attention until it's done. Thanks for your attention.
Now get the hell off my lawn, you punk kids.
It's a fine piece of work so far. But it won't matter how good it is if you don't get cover art. Get some cover art & send it in to EqD. Don't wait until you've got 20,000 words; it will just make the EQD review slower and more difficult.

Thanks for the input. I'm keeping an eye out for something suitable.
