Of Kingdoms and Cutie-Marks: Developer Notes Entry 2- North Griffon Confederation · 1:15am Sep 12th, 2013
Griffons.
Probably one the more popular races to use outside of Equestria I'd guess. So, naturally, I couldn't really ignore them when it came to developing my take the world beyond the land of ponies.
The High Confederation of Wings (AKA: The North Griffon Confederation to everyone else), takes a little bit of inspiration from the historical North German Confederation and is a conglomeration of kingdoms, grand duchies, duchies and principalities; all controlled by nobles of various rank.
All member states contribute delegates to the legislative parliament , while the ruler of the most powerful client state heads the executive branch. This leads to a greater deal of political power and mobility for the griffon nobility, but with a trade off in efficiency compared to Equestria's Absolute Diarchy.
The North Griffon Confederation is a major military power, though one that doesn't have much practical field experience, due to the almost thousand year peace that fell on the Equestrian continent after the banishment of Nightmare Moon. The Griffons also lag behind Equestria in terms of magical power, lacking the number of magical academies that Equestria has.
They've began to invest heavily in the technological creations being developed by the camels of the Republic of Dromedus to try and close that gap.
The current High Chancellor, Chancellor Ironclaw has been engaged in a great deal of sabre rattling with Equestria as of late. He finds the rhetoric of Celestia to be insufferable and wishes to prove that the modern griffon state is just as capable of projecting it's desires onto the world as the ponies are.
