Progress report: Conductor first draft, other updates · 11:16am Sep 3rd, 2013

A brief update on the status of some stories at 4am.

The Conductor: The first draft is complete at 7269 words, a bit longer than I had hoped - I'm going to have to work on hacking it down in size to make it more succinct, and parts of it will likely need to be rewritten entirely, but at least I finally got the first draft actually done. This is a piece of non-pony original fiction, and is the story of a group of men travelling to a city by train to fight off an army of autonomous machines, steampunk golems powered by the souls of animals - and people.

This isn't really presentable yet - I'm probably going to end up rewriting at least half of it - but I'm probably going to take a day to let it sink in before I start tearing it apart and rewriting it. If anyone is interested in helping me edit such a thing - it is a combination of dialogue and action - I would be grateful, but I probably won't have anything I feel is worth shoving in front of people for a couple more drafts.

The Best: Rainbow Dash joins the Wonderbolts and comes to terms with the fact that she is indeed the best flier in all of Equestria with the help of her friends and new teammates. The first chapter's first draft is complete. By my current estimates, it is going to clock in at six chapters and 20k words.

Daring Do x Rosetta Stone OTP: TwiDash shipfic. The first two chapters' first drafts are done. This story is expected to come in at five chapters, about 15k words, and several months late for the contest which inspired it.

Made and Unmade: I've completed two stories for the Made and Unmade challenge for the Intelligent Shipping Discussion group, and have figured out five others, but likely won't be putting any of these up until I've got at least five done. I'm aiming for around 2,000 words for each of these, but given I've already managed to exceed that with one of the stories, who knows how well I'll hold to that. These are mostly my little throwaway work projects when I don't feel like working on anything substantial.

Look to the Stars: Two versions of this have been laid out, and I'm not really happy with either. May end up becoming a short story instead to make it punchier and less meandering.
