Back from the Dead (sorta) and Talking Bout Snowdrop/Double Rainboom... Among Other Things...

    I suppose I only came on here to get some insight from fellow followers from the fandom. No, it's not a personal problem, but actually about two projects that have come out in the last month;

-Double Rainboom, a 28 minute long fan-made episode which is supposed to mimic the quality of the series.

Not sure if my opinions are much valid anymore, being off the loop for awhile, but thought I might as well give my two cents on the matter... not that I even paid that much to see it!

BA DUM, TSS!

... *cough*

ANYWAYS, the movie.

WARNING: SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT!

Yeah, I was able to find one of the leaked videos of the entire movie on Youtube (at 12:00 at night no less), and decided to watch it even though my expectations of said video was... minimal. After watching said movie, even with the HORRIBLE visual quality, I gave it...

7.5/10 STARS

Where do I start...

Well, first, the beginning. Interesting remix of the theme song. I enjoyed it, much more than the usual one really. Guess thats more of an opinion matter. What I didn't get was why exactly it had to be in the Crystal Empire... If I missed that info, sorry! But couldn't it have just as easily been in Canterlot? And a lot shorter distance too? I did like how Luna seems to have gradually gotten rid of her "YE OLDE CAPSLOCKE" kind of accent over the course of her time in different episodes. On a side note, doesn't she seem a bit distant/cold after the Nightmare Night episode? Especially towards Twilight? I'm finding that odd...

Alright, so, after the intro, before EqG High School. The whole scene with Sunset Shimmer stealing the crown? Felt kind of weak in my opinion... could have been... explained/done better. That's more of a preference with me but whatever. And the fact that she could just have easily teleported out of the castle herself leaves me a bit baffled. Course, this is a story and you can't always have the logical route happen. Ah well.

So, pre mirror teleportation world thingy. Four Unicorns with magic and the fastest pegasus ever can't stop a dragon from running through them and into the portal after Twilight? And c'mon... If Spike jumped in, I know for sure RD would have been right afterward, leading AJ, then Pinkie, and Rarity shoving Fluttershy right after. It would make sense, lest Celestia, Luna, and Cadence blocked them in time. Well, this is a bit of speculation, but whatever. Oh, and... 30 moons. Wouldn't that just be, ya know... 1 MONTH?! so honestly, it wouldn't be THAT bad now, would it? Or... did she mean 30 full moons? Or 30 moons on this day (i.e. 30 years)? I wonder...
Well, at least it wasn't 1000... lol XD

Post mirror time. Reactions from Twilight were... mostly good. Basically kind of how I thought it was going to be honestly, though the focus on hands was a BIT much in my opinion. What REALLY killed me was Spike being a YBKDENM>?>WIOU@*( DOG! I mean really, CMON! I know he isn't such a big character but that just seems a bit demeaning! This is from a Fandom point of view of course, but jeez... cmon!

Fluttershy scene and Celestia scene. Fluttershy, character-wise, was done so spot on, though a bit TOO much like the original meeting. I think meeting her first, however, was a better idea than doing the same order as before. The fact that Sunset Shimmer, however, doesn't recognize Twi, is a bit weird, considering she KNOWS that everyone is similar to their pony selves. She couldn't remember Twi's pattern and colors? Jeez... Anyways, classic Twi when she entered the Principal's office, though Celestia I think, personally, did the Principal job well. A bit worn in the voice, like "why is there more kids in my office?" yet authoritative and strong like she was as Equestria's ruler. What kills me is that the whole plot is centered around her getting the crown... via becoming basically Prom Queen. Like, wtf man? Guess who has to become popular to win? Twi does! Of course, she does it in a MUCH better way and through good means, so that's not necessarily a bad thing, just weaker and less original story.

Intro to Pinkie, Mac, and AJ. You get the full sense of that the Mane 6 are at odds with each other now, and that Snips/Snails are, once again, lackeys to the villain. Its nice to do stuff like that... once. Maybe twice, since it worked well with Trixie. But whats next? Sombra's back and, Oh! Guess what! Snips and Snails are his lackeys... Guh... Anyways, Mac, done well of course. AJ and Pinkie's personalities and quirks were in full swing here and done well, and Sunset Shimmer became more and more the person you want to see burned alive~ Pinkie logic was well done in the scene. And if AJ was the "Honest" one, then I think she would have been pressing on Twi a bit more for information.

Lunch scene w/ Fluttershy. Firstly... Not sure if those were veggie burgers or not... O.o Second, the clique's of High School were... pretty solid. Maybe a few I personally would not find as totally separate or actually that prominent, but thats me. Eating habits by Twi were also pretty funny/logical. BUT THAT GRANNY SMITH OH GAWD WHY?

Threat scene and Library. Darker point of the movie where I saw QUITE a bit of symbolism with the whole shadow and light going on, how Sunset Shimmer was in the light of all the information of this world and how it works, and Twi was in the dark about it, knowing very little about it. The solid threat made was pretty harsh, making you only hate her more really, but loving her as a character with some personality... Get on that one later~ Anyways, of course, we get (if I remember correctly) our grand intro to the HUMANOID GREAT and POWERFUL TRRRRRRIXIE! Honestly expected Flash Sentry there but whatever, and showed Twilight, again, how little she actually knows. Move to Library scene~~~~ Twi should know better how to react in a library, one. Two, Cheerilee seemed like the underpaid, overworked, and incredibly stressed out teacher we all know and love in our own world~ Adding the CMC into the mix, which seemed kind of... random, personally, wasn't needed. However, showing the whole "Twilight vs. Technology" thing was a great touch to both symbolism and just plain curiosity of the fandom. Having her sleep in the library second floor, however, was a bit... stupid, really. Short term place, yes, but what about the janitor? He's not gonna check up there at all? Eh... good symbolism for her home in Ponyville, but that's about it rly... :/

Rarity/RD scene. Nice depiction of school bullying/bad politics lol, though a bit cliche. Its a bit late to be adding Rarity in, but whatever, plus the scene mainly is there to give light on the fact Sunset Shimmer is behind their separation as friends, and it's up to Twi to rejoin them... Again. Which she does. Again. And, weirdly enough, NOBODY EVER THOUGHT OF ASKING THE OTHER WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED! It's like one little quip between friends turned into the raging anti-friend flood caused by a small leak in their friendship dam and nobody wanted to cross the waters to figure out what the hell went wrong! One of the WEAKEST points in the movie. Moving on to RD. WAYYYYYYY late for her to be making her appearance, especially as one of the Mane 6, and the whole soccer scene, although giving good moral sense, wasn't really needed at all...

Sugarcube... Place scene. One, ITS NO LONGER ON A CORNER BLARGH! Second, great... Now she somehow, even though a pony, has this girl crush on the ex-BF (whaaaaaaat?!) of Sunset Shimmer, who in turn likes her back. Mr. and Mrs. Cake were nicely done, and the fact its a meet up place is logical. Not sure if Pinkie lives or works there tho, so that slightly bothered me. The Cantelot High Wondercolts were a smart idea, I liked that, and the outfits were, once again, a great tie-in to Equestria plus just in general a good idea personally. Having Rarity in charge of them was also nicely done.

"Get up, make a sound" song/lunch place. High School Musical anyone? lol but really, I enjoyed the song plus how it started, what it was (somewhat) about, and it had a great choreographed dance routine that everyone picked up on in less than a night! lol that I let slide cuz its a cartoon and music, but the whole unification message *tohelptwilightgetthecrowncoughcough* for the school was pretty solid and enjoyable. Having everyone dress up similarly to their ponies as well, I think, made Twilight a bit more comfortable in the atmosphere, so that was nice.

Ohgodwhyisthissolongggggg...

Erhem... sorry.

Anyways, Luna/revealment scene. Honestly, I was impressed by the craftiness of the shopped photos. Nice idea really, so I gotta give props to Sunset Shimmer for that. Luna, was quite good in her seen, both having the dark room (for the night) and the "bad cop" kind of attitude. I do believe, however, that Luna and Celestia knew a bit about Sunset Shimmer and how she was by the way Luna was talking about the wreckage. Anyways, poor Flash Sentry with the Twilight put dowwwwwwn! Though it was pretty funny lol But then having her race, all the way to Carousel Boutique, and how the hell she even knew where it was/that her friends were there, was quite off. THEN, the only reason for having Spike as a dog comes through! So that he can talk and prove Twilight's story... that Pinkie Pie happened to know "on a hunch". More like, "via writers too lazy to find a better revealment... and needed more Pinkie Pie logic!" Besides that, I honestly think that, even with talking dogdragonthing, they were a LITTLE bit too believing for their TWO DAY OLD NEW FRIEND. This scene felt a bit like "Okay, gotta wrap this up!" to me when it could have been done much better...

Clean-up scene/Dressing up song. Not much to say on the clean up montage really... obviously happened after school, the montage a few funny parts, and it actually made sense... except when the Mane 6 are above the rest of them and aren't doing anything, being like "Yo, we supervisors now~" XP The song... I barely even remember and having a montage shortly after another montage is... kinda dumb. Yeah, there were nice parts to it, funny and stuff, and reminiscent of, I believe, all their dresses so far into one. Anyways, nothing much besides that...

Predance and dance scene. Flash Sentry coming in for a second chance and... BOOM! He lands it! And then... messes up terribly but in a funny way! Wonder who got/drove the limo as well... Steven Magnet lol? Plus, normal dancing Twilight... never thought I'd see it lol XD Guess that's about it really... Surprised Vinyl wasn't up there first really...

STANDOFF SCENE! Twilight had been crowned (unexpected, though Sunset would cheat), Spike stolen, random Trixie appearance again, and Sunset now has Twi in stalemate! This part was done pretty well in my opinion. I was NOT expecting Twi to actually call out the bluff like that, though in retrospect, it does make the most sense, especially with what she said about her reasons. Oh, and, if its a two way mirror... that lets things go through it to alt dimension... wouldn't the sledge just go through it? And... if its been active for such a long time now... wouldn't SOMEBODY have, I don't know... LEANED AGAINST THE STATUE IN ALL ITS TIME THERE?! I mean, c'mon... Having it in, one, a public place and, two, by a school FULL of teens who would probably be around the grounds during break and after school, be a bad idea? Just saying... Anyways, the whole montage of them trying to get the crown was a little funny, tho drawn out. Last comment on that scene.

DEMONESS, SUCCUBUS, FIRE ELEMENTAL THING SCENE. Oh jeez this scene... For starters, a FRICKIN DEMON LADY. In a KIDS MOVIE. WHAT. THE. HELL. I mean, it was awesome for me, an actual like, intense villain who wanted to take over Equestria via... well, lame teenage zombie army and Demon power somehow via Elements of Harmony (?), but like, I'd be afraid the kids would be like "WHAT IS THAT MAMA?!" "I DON'T KNOW SHIRLEY BUT THAT THING IS FREAKING ME THE HELL OUT!" Oh lawdy lawdy lawd... Anyways, that aside, not really much of a "boss battle", and having Snips/Snails in there as demon dude was... kinda weird. Idk. Thought Sunset shouldn't have done that. Oh, and, no Celestia or Luna! Like usual! Just throwing that out there lol though in this case... yeah, wouldn't have done much.

Defeat of Sunset Shimmer. Yeah, this one gets it's own section! One: RAINBOW TORNADO A GO-GO! For like, the third time now? Like c'mon... can't there be a LITTLE variation in the way you defeat your enemies? :/ Kind of sick of seeing the same trick over and over again! Two: GO GO MANE 6 RANGERS!!! Oh god... that was so cheesy. The other thing too was that Rarity and Twi didn't get horns... why not? Twi, RD, and Fluttershy all got wings? Meh... Three: Dat pity scene... HOLY SHIT I HATE HASBRO FOR WHAT THEY DID WITH TWI AND SUNSET. Sunset was a BIOOOOOOOTCH, wanted to rule Equestria, WITH AN ARMY. Doesn't that sound like someone to you? *coughcoughCHRYSALIScoughcough* I mean like, what the hell with the pity party for Sunset after she got defeated?! And what the hell is with the bipolar moment with Sunset HERSELF?! High, mighty, powerful, and in charge... THENNNNN goes bursting into tears, wallowing in a crater, getting pitied on, and meek... or maybe feeling guilt? Either way, HUGE Bipolar moment for her... WAY out of character... FAILURE.

Pre-final dance and return to Equestria. Oh look! Celestia is here... AFTER the school almost got enslaved, a crater was formed, and the front end of the school ripped off... AND SHE IGNORES IT LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED! Like... what the hell?! And after everything, Sunset is charged with basically repairing the school? What, is there no police system? No Equestrian law being put on her head? And instead, she doesn't get a choice to go back to Equestria at ALL? Wth... Anyways, after ignoring all damage done to the building, the school body decides, "Hey! More partying! Even though Twilight has to leave very soon or else she will be trapped her for a friggin long time!" Would have been interesting if she missed it lol And it kinda sucks that the EqG Mane 6 wasn't able to follow... Now THAT would have been interesting!

Equestria to the very end. The whole point of the movie... basically... was for Twi for one: carry on the royal tradition of princesses having a love interest in royal guards and two: "Become more comfortable being a princess". HOW THE HELL DID ANYTHING SHE DID IN HERE MAKE HER MORE PRINCESSEY?! She observed and learned from an altogether different kind of beings, became a "Princess" by making/helping friends (once AGAIN), and left a villain stuck in EqG world for however the hell long 30 moons actually is. The only thing I would consider princessey of her is that she helped the school break the cliques down. Guh... I honestly am just curious if the movie will actually affect anything in Season 4. Probably will be, but... really? And just leaving it off with the love interest again... blurgh. Hand me a bucket. :/

ALRIGHT! So, now that the movie plot is FINALLY done... just wanna comment on some key points about the movie as my last bit of review...

First, the humanoids as a general thing. It was like the creators of Monster High, Bratz, Movie Star Planet, and Hasbro decided to do a three way and create... these things in the EqG world. Pretty cliche and unimaginative in my opinion, besides MAYBE the skin tones, though not needed AT ALL. The symbols on everyone was a good tie back to their pony selves, but that's about it... besides dividing them up into social cliques based on talents. Also, the ages for everyone and everypony in both worlds have me so confused now... ><

Now, the obvious humanoids we saw... The Mane 6, Trixie, Sunset Shimmer, Luna, Celestia, Snips/Snails, The CMC, Granny Smith, and Cheerilee. First, Mane 6. I think they did a great job at color, style, and occupations in the school. Everything seemed to fit well, though of course... What about Twilight? Like Pinkie Pie said... IS there an actual twin of Twilight roaming that world somewhere, with an identical Spike dog? That question was never REALLY answered, as the anomaly is still unsolved... Next, Trixie. Why the hell those two moments with here by a vending machine? No, like, really? Sunset Shimmer is up next. Okay, so, when she went in... did she like, teleport back in time or something? One, she won the last three years for the Princess of the blah blah Fall thing... So she is a Senior, along with Mane 6... who she broke up their friendship either freshman, sophomore, or junior year. If it wasn't her, during that time that is... did she like, take over the Sunset shimmer of EqG or something? Ugh... Alright, Luna and Celestia. The Principal/Vice Principal thing was a good was to incorporate them, plus they were well done characters and presented well. Though Luna is still second in command... :/ Next, is Snips and Snails. Once again, lackeys. Already brought this up. Though they seem to be, well, two things. One, they LOOK to be the same age as Twi and the others, aka Seniors, but should be in the same age group as the CMC, which were probably Freshmen... Two, they were, like, legit mean and spiteful in the movie, not like they usually are in the show. It shocked me actually at how they were in this movie. Alright, now onto the CMC. Firstly... Freshmen? Are they only THAT young compared to Twi and the others? Their brief appearances were spot on for their personalities, but otherwise were... not really needed, aka the library scene. That's about it for them I suppose... and of course, music and Youtube ref, which I thought was a nice sly trick~ Granny Smith next! Ok, old, good. Dealing in cooking? Uh, alright, that works. Being really big like that? EEEENOPE. Granny Smith was always a thin old granny, not a tubby one! For shameeeeeee! :/ Now, lastly, Cheerilee. Was she a teacher or a librarian? Or both? No clue... and if she and Big Mac are supposed to be a casual "thing", then wouldn't Big Mac look... older? He seemed pretty young to me... Like college student level really... Bit young for going after the teacher, eh?

Alright, last thing to talk about... the LACK, of humanoids, namely Derpy Hooves, Lyra, Bon Bon, Carrot Top Octavia, and Doctor Whooves. LETTING YOU KNOW, I DID NOT SEE THESE PEOPLE IN THE MOVIE BUT THEY MAY ACTUALLY BE THERE FROM ME MISSING THEM! So, that being said, apparently Derpy made a cameo in the credits (which I was not able to see with my version of the movie that I saw), but if she could have made a cameo in the credits, she could have definitely been in the actual movie! :/ Derpy in the movie... now thinking about it... I'm not sure how I would feel about that... Sad that she got swept into this movie? Or glad for the same reason and that we could see a humanized version of her? Hmmmm.... Anyways, basically, none of the others listed here I happened to notice, which REALLY surprises me actually. The only fan favorite BG pony out of the usual BG 6 hat was shown a few times, from what I could see, was Vinyl Scratch. No Octavia, no Lyra, no Carrot Top, no Bon Bon, and no Doctor Whooves. Like... why? That seems so strange to me really... :/ I even saw Silver Spoon and Diamon Tiara, but no Derpy? No Lyra? Wth... :/

FINAL WORDS: The movie itself could have been a LOT better, but it wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen. Give it a try if you want. I could see Hasbro, unfortunately, working with it in the future but for me, it just felt like one really long, kinda bad episode of MLP. I believe I pointed out all I could about it, good and bad, so the judgement is all on you!

So, this is the end of my review/rant/opinion on the MLP movie we had been waiting so long for... *twitch*... Hehehehe... Well, anyways, take what you will from this, and if anything is deathly wrong, if you don't agree with something I said, if you love to eat walrus blubber, if you actually agree with something I said, or you have nothing else to do, reply below and share thy thoughts, thine threads of wisdom! Thanks for reading this REALLY long thing... if you do anyways. Took me forever to write lol XP

omg a wall of text! anyways I thought it was pretty good... and that's wat matters to ME! :pinkiecrazy:

I do agree with some of the points you made, but you may of gone a bit overboard with the nitpicking.

The cutie mark crusaders in the library was a entertaining scene and brought up a video sharing website that is latter used by Sunset Shimmer for character assassination purposes. Even if you want to write off the scene as pointless filler, the movie was kinda short and may have benefited from bit extra added in. Hell, almost the entire move takes place in a school and we never see Twilight inside a classroom.

Sunset Shimmer's personalty shift after getting hit with the elements seems fairly reasonable considering that nearly the exact same thing happens in the first episode with Nightmare Moon. I guess it was still a little bit jarring.

I could go on, but it would be just a few minor things that are not important.
The movie was still better then I thought it was going to be.

1167286

Eh, yeah... I agree on my nitpicking, but it's the little things that bother me I suppose. And true, it is a part of Sunset's scheme, but they could have still done it without the preemptive view from the CMC. I felt it wasn't needed, but yeah, the shortness of the film amongst other things did kind of require it.

And yeah, I felt like it was just TOO much of a shift really. Like polar opposite kind of stuff. And... a valid point with Nightmare Moon, but wouldn't we say the same about Discord? True, he did turn good after they unlocked him again, but personality wise, still the same rly. Idk, its just was like BLAM! who the hell is this character now?

And, once again, yeah. I thought it was going to be pretty crappy, but it wasn't too terrible. I mean, i ranted about the small stuff but i suppose that's just me being me~ :derpytongue2:
