S3 REVIEW and The Finale (Might as well, right?) · 11:06pm Jan 30th, 2013
Before I even get around to the finale, I'm going to talk about the season in general first, just to get that out of the way...
EPISODE 1+2- (S3 Opening)
Although I wasn't a big fan of Umbra (like others), the whole fact that villains came back in this season makes me think that Umbra shall too, but at the end. Maybe, possibly, its still up for grabs. I mean, we all knew at the end of S2 that Cadence was "evil", but I HIGHLY doubted that somebody guessed the Changelings! Anyways, it was decent and opened up a lot of ideas to the rest of the season, but it could have been done much better, especially if it hadn't been so broad and the villain had been more developed. We never also get the full reason as to why the Crystal Empire suddenly reappeared, or Cadence's relations with the Empire/Umbra. Or even why she was a babysitter for that matter! Oh yeah, whatever happened to the Crystal Kingdom Anthem Twilight was supposed to do? 
EPISODE 3- (Too Many Pinkie Pies)
Oh god... this would be a nightmare for most people! Honestly, I had always toyed around the idea of if there were multiple Pinkie Pies in Ponyville one day, and i think that this episode did the idea justice. The story was simple, solution and problem simple, and they threw in a few references that i thought were pretty funny. (Still think they should have had Lyra around when Pinkie did the freaky hand thing! XD)
EPISODE 4- (Babs Seed episode)
With what I think was the best song out of the few they had this season, this episode was a pretty good CMC episode. It broadened up the CMC, as some of us wanted, expanded the Apple Family some more, and brought upon the topic of bullying to a kids level, which I personally expected to happen in one of the episodes in one of the seasons. It also, as a side affect, introduced more of Equestria's technology like movies and motorized vehicles. The song was the icing on the episode but the story and introduction of Babs Seed was the entire cake.
EPISODE 5- (Trixie returns episode)
One of the better episodes of the season, the idea of Trixie coming back and reaping her revenge was something the fans have played around with for awhile. They way she did it was the cliche old fashioned way of "super power booster" which worked, like it should, and failed her, eventually. Though, I will say I wasn't expecting Twilight to actually just not be powerful enough to beat her. The fact she tricked her and admitted she wasn't powerful enough was unexpected yet very good. And I loved how they switcheroo'd and all that~ It was kind of... shallow when Trixie reformed honestly, and I thought that part was kind of weak, but overall, one of favorite episodes this season.
EPISODE 6- (Sleepless in Ponyville)
Now this... THIS episode made me cringe when I first heard about it. At first, I thought my friend who told me about it was only kidding. Then, it got worse. It was TRUE. I'm not saying it was a bad episode... It just seemed like TOO MUCH towards the fandom. Of course its been obvious that RD and Scoot would have an episode at one time of another but... Its almost as if they are starting to wrap things up here, trying to finish up questions we would have... Yeah, it was done well, not the best, but the way that everything happened... Just seemed like they took a fanfiction from here and was like "Lets do this!" Idk, maybe thats just how I feel about it. The only thing I DID like, which I really wanted to happen this season, is Luna's appearance and her incorporation into Dreams and Nightmares, saying that the Princesses DO have incorporation in the aspects of Sun and Moon. That, I'm hoping, gets expanded one day.
EPISODE 7- (Wonderbolt Academy episode)
Several things I liked, several things I didn't in this episode. First, lets go with the likes. I liked the other version of RD, Lightning Dust. It showed basically what RD could be if she didn't have priorities in her life and if she was purely reckless. Was she really a "villain"? No, just an arse. Raindrops, my second favorite Pegasus, also made her own part in the episode. Honestly, I was (almost) happy with all the pegasi that they chose to be in the episode. Of course I wish that my favorite Derpy was there, but thats personal opinion~ I think the episode could have used a Wonderbolts song, or maybe Gilda returning or something crazy. Idk, it just seemed to... meh. And lots of Pinkie Dash shipping. And lots of shipping shots in general in the episodes lately...
EPISODE 8- (Apple Reunion episode)
Oh god... I think I hated this one more that the Scoot Dash one. First of all, didn't she learn before that "too much is bad for you", from like, Season 1, Episode 3? 
I know, a bit different context with this one, but whatever. I did like that they placed this episode a few episodes away from Babs Seed, along with mentioning that there were two other CMC's back in Manehatten with Babs, proposing the next Mane 6 possibility. It would make for a good episode in the future, a possible intro episode to a new Season. Anyways, this episode just touched me wrong and seemed off. The Fruit Bats were kinda funny as an idea, but besides that... I didn't like very much about it. Not even the song! Seemed more kiddish (I know I know, kids show) than the others that have been made. I was hoping for more Applejack songs but this wasn't a very good one in my opinion... Also, Twilight happened to be at the Apple Family Reunion during the first episode in Season 1! So two things... would it be, or not be, the Summer Sun Celebration? Because its been apparently enough time in the series that the reunion has happened again.
Also... WHERE THE HELL WERE AJ's, BIG MAC's, AND APPLEBLOOM's PARENTS, HUH? Now THAT would have made this episode 40 times better! Or at LEAST mention if they are alive or dead or SOMETHING...
EPISODE 9- (Spike At Your Service)
... I take back what I said about last episode. THIS was the one I thought was the WORST out of the entire season, and possibly the entire series. Almost every character in her was done wrong, SO wrong its not even funny. Spike, being the main entity of the episode, wasn't... Spike. He's Twilight's helper and does things for her ALL the time! He is making mistakes and ruining everything around him (save washing a pig[?]) and only gets ridiculous tasks done right, like the stone tower. Also, in the newest episode with the pets, he tries to bake a cake, doing everything right, yet in here he messes the entire thing up like he is horrible at baking! RD also comes in and mention that she, and Applejack, are both making books. Out of EVERYPONY in the series, would that seem logical? RD wouldn't openly tell anypony about that kind of stuff, maybe she would by accident, but Applejack doing a book? Not very likely, in my opinion. At least the whole lying about being wedged in the rocks part was true to Applejack, as she did a terrible job at it. Twilight being engrossed in her reading, as well, was pretty true to her, but Spike should have known that, being with her HIS WHOLE LIFE. Urgh. Episode frustrates Scripture.
EPISODE 10- (Keep Calm and Flutter On)
Firstly... wtf title, really? Are they THAT desperate they are going to memes for them? *sigh*... Anyways, definitely better than some of the previous episodes, especially since I love Discord and his attitude and randomness on everything! He always makes the episode better~ The whole beaver thing at the end was kind of expected, especially since you had little background reminders throughout the episode, but it was still well done. Having Fluttershy be the main pony along with Discord in the episode was good (though the shipping has been through the roof). I was thinking that they would reform, or try to, reform him in one way or another, but I was hoping, not expecting, and was surprised by this episode. In all honesty, I thought that Fluttershy showed more Loyalty in this one episode than RD has in the entire series, as she kept her word and promises to the bitter end. I'm finding RD to be weaker and less of what she was as we continue on in the series... ANYWAYS, with the humor of De Lancie along with the meekness of Fluttershy, this turned out to be a fairly good episode.
One thing I never did get though was why, at the VERY end of the episode, everyone made weird faces, including Celestia. Are they ACTUALLY implying the shipping between the two? Or guilt at not thinking he could be good? Or what? Idk...
EPISODE 11- (Spike Pet Sitting)
Okay, not my choice for an ending episode, but whatever. Its nice to at least see all the pets again, specially Tank~ The characters in the episode REALLY are quite like they should be (cept Rarity), which i thought was great. Even RD seemed like the good old RD I used to know! Maybe it was the small realtionship moments she had with Tank, but it really grounded her back for me to like her again. Rarity, as you have probably seen by the memes, was less than her Element of Generosity with Spike. Generous in her instructions on Opalescence though. Pinkie was Pinkie, who've they have never done wrong, and Fluttershy was meek like she always should be. Twilight knew what was going on, as she should with Spike, and AJ was there too little to say much. Spike let his greed get through, which I was hoping they would revisit a bit, though one could say he was just an entrepreneur. Anyways, four things bothered me about the episode. One was that, if Angel had just been patient, I think Spike would have taken his rollers out. He was, after all, trying to get them together when Angel decided to book it. The other thing was that Spike took the bowl of mix for the cake, at the end... I think it would have been trashed by the time they got home. The CMC were brought back... Again... and I don't think they were necessarily needed. Zecora's random appearance and minimal help also wasn't really needed, although the Filly Scout was pretty damn adorable, and possibly open to a future episode.
What bothered me the most, however, was, if you noticed it, reconstruction of the fandom! Carrot Top, being Dinky Hoove's mother and having a husband/boyfriend or whatever. Either way, these two things actually destroyed and cut off Derpy Hoove's, who never made an appearance in S3 yet. Derpy is supposed to be roommates with Carrot Top (IF MY MEMORY IS CORRECT) and Dinky Hoove's is Derpy's daughter. Now, Derpy has no daughter and no roommate. She got cut away from family and friends and fans. Its like Hasbro is going "F*** you Derpy! We're gonna try and delete you as much as we can for all the crap you did in Season 2!" EPISODE 12+13 (Season Finale/ Coronation of Twilight/ Alicorn Twilight)
So, finally I get to the end.... This part is just my thoughts about the whole thing and what my predictions are for it.
Basically, I have no real problem with A.T., but I feel like two things are happening because of it; 1) They are trying to end MLP: FiM and 2) They are playing WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too much into the fandom. After episode like the Scoot Dash one, Fluttershy Discord one, and The Wonderbolts academy one, it feels like they are trying to literally just wrap up the series and make it so that our fanfictions are true. I don't want that. I want ORIGINAL episodes happening. QUESTIONS we gain, and never fully get answered.
And the fact that Witchcraft is Magic apparently guessed EVERYTHING right in the series is kind of bullshit... like either they had inside information or the writers were just implementing their ideas.
*sigh*... Anyways, with A.T., there is probably going to be a few options as to what will happen.
1. She gains them, then gives them up to be with friends, continuing the series
2. She gains them and keeps them as her responsibility, ending the series
3. Gains them and that darkness of Sombra controls her, she is the next villain, becomes Nightmare Moon-like maybe? Darkness in her heart overcomes?
4. Discord does something and turns evil again maybe?
5. Sombra, Chrysalis allegiance
6. Twilight goes evil and battles other alicorns
7. She uses her magic to revive Derpy! :D
8. A new villain pops up and does some crazy shit after a few days in office
9. Griffin vs Pony war ensues (she did mention a Great Pony War or something in the future Twilight episode... could have another?)
10. She now sparkles in the sunlight (LULZ)
11. She is just an Alicorn that happens to live in Ponyville
12. Element of Friendship is born after a fuzing of all the other elements and is used to eradicate evil or something
13. Maybe other elements become alicorns too, which would also end the series.
14. LOL the power gets to her head and she becomes bossy!
15. Trixie underling maybe? HER student in magic?
16. Fallout: Equestria~ :3 (i wish)
17. Gains powers, keeps them, and Celestia allows friends to stay with her, but they reluctantly refuse, knowing their place is back in Ponyville. Twilight doesn't go and they part, sad few days for Twilight, and then crazy evil shit happens~
I have some others but this is a more sufficient list. Anyways, this is my thought about the season and its episodes. Hopefully, we actually get to Season 4 and we will still watch the show we love.
Out of rumors it will probably be nr.11. And whole this case with AT is because Hasbro want new toy to sell, so they put pressure on script writers. Also they doing everything they can to eradicate Derpy, even going as far, as to give strict prohibition on showing her wherever in S4 (it's in production according to some financial papers).
I don't know how it all will look like, but for the sake of peace I will treat her as a sort of "SSJ of MLP".
Derpy has been in episodes, trust me, if you like I can point out where. Spike is an idiot, CMC are awesome... the Apple parents are dead, which is hinted at (extremely subtly) in the episode.

775942 yes, they try to get rid of Derpy. As you've seen, there was almost no appearances of her in S3, and they want none of her in S4. They took slow approach, to not agitate us too much.

775942 watch the crowd during the jousting match in the Crystal Empire episode 2, in episode 3 she was in the crowd complaining about Pinkie and in Magic Duel she was on both sides of the stands (don't ask I dunno) at the end of the episode. Those are unfortunatly her only appearences in season 3 so far but she has been here.

In some cases such as Spike at Your Service where SOMEHOW he becomes super clumsy and bad at the job he normally does anyway I just get really really annoyed with the squirt. And that episode was written by a guy who has repeatedly gotten/twisted characters around to fit the plot of the episode, making many characters uncanon with what he does. I was personally happy with Spike coming in a bit more into the episodes, and having two of his own, but yeah... I agree with both you and Mr. about the whole Rarity thing. Never will work, funny he always still tries, and female dragon would be highly doubtful, though with this season, who knows?
