Back from the Dead (sorta) and Talking Bout Snowdrop/Double Rainboom... Among Other Things... · 5:50am Apr 11th, 2013
I suppose I only came on here to get some insight from fellow followers from the fandom. No, it's not a personal problem, but actually about two projects that have come out in the last month;
-Double Rainboom, a 28 minute long fan-made episode which is supposed to mimic the quality of the series.
-Snowdrop, another fan-made episode, a little shorter than ^^^ but of good quality as well
Now, my questions are basically this... what do you guys think about the fan-made episodes?
And secondly... I am think about taking down I Hate Ponies! I will talk why at the end.
For the episodes, I found flaws in each of them, like quality of voices for Luna in Snowdrop and Rainbow Dash in Double Rainboom, and the amount of references made in Double Rainboom, but I didn't feel like it detracted very much from the videos. Personally, I enjoyed both of them immensely, deeming them as both incredibly hard ordeals and some of our best work as a fandom. True, DR's amount of references was over the top and some are calling it "Double Faust Service", but even still, I found the quality great, the animation fantastic, and the artwork spot on. It may be me, but even with all the references from Faust's work thrown in there, I still found it an enjoyable episode to watch.
For Snowdrop, besides the Luna voice at the end... I couldn't find very much, if at all, wrong with it. The subtlety of her blindness was fantastic, the simplistic yet meaningful story was great, and small links to the series were a great idea. I still am in debate which i like better, but I think it will probably be Snowdrop.
I'm kind of hating MicTheMic right now for his, as I put it, "righteous asshole review" of Double Rainboom. Yes, he brings about good points about the episode which I agree on, but the way he presented everything irritates me to no end. Like seriously, they tried ok? Even great or popular works degrade over time if left out long enough (I Hate Ponies! and only saying because it was my most popular piece). Anyways, enough about him...
The other topic I am bringing up is something I have been contemplating for quite a bit now over my hiatus. It's something I have tossed around my brain quite a number of times and am truly wondering if I should do it...
I think I am going to take down I Hate Ponies!
I know it's my "big story", but I realized after a bit that what once was a simple story became too complex, and my life itself got too much into my writing. My story became stupid and unintelligent comedy to a dark world where I had the main character almost beat the hell out of his friend. His other friend went psycho and I inserted a ship I should have never done. I still can't believe I made that decision really... SO STUPID OF ME!
Anyways, I want to take it down so that the name of Scripture can be revived with something a bit more centered, a bit more focused. I don't want to be remembered as the "crappy HiE author who made I Hate Ponies!" After all, I did try to branch out my stories, make some funnier, make some more serious, but they kind of flopped, never rising like my big story did. I'm thinking of maybe stripping my lesser quality stories as well, hoping to maybe "purify" my story count. I don't know... This is just my rambling mind talking.
So if you have any comments, complaints, extraterrestial children, or are named Cthulhu, please feel free to respond below~
(Oh, btw, this doesn't necessarily mean I am back. I might once Summer hits however~"
Kinda sad to hear you're taking down your main story. I actually enjoyed that one. But as the author that is your choice. I agree with you on the two fan made clips, very good all around with the D.R. and Snowdrop. The references in D.R. were a little over the top, but that did nothing to ruin the quality of the video. Snowdrop was good too. Sad, but good. The animation quality was close to show quality and, like you said, the hint toward Snowdrop's blindness was not overly stressed. I have considered watching it a second time, if I get good connection.

to the blogging author: sad to see a fic taken down, but you gotta do what you gotta do
Ya well, it saddens me to say this is goodbye. You have written ten stories and only one of them is complete and now your telling me your going to stop updating another story. I was following you because of one story, (Silence) which I had plans to read after it updated a few more times or finished but I can see now that's not going to happen. It may be because of your IRL problems but you have turned out to be an author that I can not trust to update at a steady pace or at all for that matter. I have enjoyed reading a lot of your post but i'm going to have to let you go. It not you it's me....no wait it is you I juts love using that line. Any ways, so long and thanks for all the fish.
PS: I only typed this up because I hate when people just unfriend or in this case stop following out of no nowhere with out giving a reason why.
999001 works better
On the subject of Double Rainboom. The animation was great and the voice-acting was above average for a fan-made work. I still absolutely despise it however, and the references are part of why. You see, I don't mind the memes or the Faust-worship, but when those are the only things, story-wise, that are supposed to entertain me, I get more than a little peeved. The story of DR never goes beyond "RD goes to Townsville". Don't get me wrong, that is a good concept, if nothing at all like MLP;FIM, but it needs to be developed, there needs to be more. I find it really sad that I can sit here and improve something 100+ people have worked on for 2 years in a few minutes. They really dropped the ball when it came to anything except voice-acting and animation.
If you take down "I hate Ponies!", can you at least close all plotholes, like how Matt's girlfriend ended up in Equestria? A simple post with a few paragraphs would suffice, assuming you do not plan to recreate the story. If this story ends then please with a closure.
