    Amaranth and the Mountain update

So last night I completed transcribing the first draft of Amaranth and the Mountain. For those of you who remember, about 1/3 of the way through the book I started doing all my writing by hand, which is a time consuming method for writing but one that I felt was well worth it. Now that it's complete, I have some actual facts and figures for you guys: work on the first chapter began on March 23rd

    Amaranth and the Mountain (Preview)

Now that Planet Hell is done, a lot of you have been wondering what's next and when the next entry in the cycle of Eternal Return will come out. To answer those questions, for now I'm working on drafting the final parts of a work of original fiction I'm calling Amaranth and the Mountain, and I won't be thinking much about a return to fan fiction until I at least see the draft done.

Reader Reward Post! · 1:36am Jun 8th, 2013

So I checked Awakening's stats today (okay, I admit, I check on it almost everyday) and I've noticed that it has passed several major milestones. It now has over 400 likes, over 25,000 total page views, and I'm just about to hit the 200 subscriber mark. So I thought I'd make a blog post with a few announcements, an update on the new book, and a link to new short story I've posted to my DA page (gasp, it doesn't involve colorful equines!?!).
Progress on the new book has been slower than I originally anticipated, but given the fact that I was writing during the academic years, I've gotten much more done than I realistically should have been able to accomplish. That said, I've made some major breakthroughs on the project I don't think I would have been able to achieve at any other time. With some help from my professors and peers, I've identified and corrected some major issues with the first three chapters of the book. Just from looking at those three and the master plot and chapter outlines, I can say without much doubt that "Planet Hell" is going to be longer than Awakening. How much so, I don't know yet, but there probably isn't going to be any 1,000 word long chapters. It's also going to be much more literary and complex. I can't say what I mean by that entirely, at least not yet, but it's by far the most ambitious project I've ever attempted to tackle (and this is coming from a guy who's written a 200K word long novel). I'm hoping this will be the kind of fanfic that you'll be able to dissect and study like an actual novel. Now that I'm back home in rainy Seattle, production on it should really kick off. I'm still hoping to get it done by September, and I'll let you know more as the project progresses.
In other news, I'm going to be attending Everfree Northwest this July! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone from last year and going, "Ha! I told you so!" to all the neigh sayers of the "Awakening" project. I'm going to do something Dale Cooper related with my badge, as I'm the only one in the fandom using that particular image. If you want to say "hi," I'll probably be around the game area and fanfiction panels (silently judging all the speakers) a lot.
Now, I won't have anything to show for the next book for a long while, but do have a non-pony related short story I've just finished and polished for my final portfolio in my writing workshop. I'm happy with how it turned out, at least enough to post it to DA. Anyway, it's Twin Peaks inspired and is vaguely postmodern and surrealist, but more importantly it borrows heavily in a thematic capacity from "Planet Hell." So if that kind of thing interests you, you can find it right here on Deviant Art.
I'll keep you all updated on the major mile stones of "Planet Hell" over the next several months, and I might -- just might -- make an unrelated fanfic during that time as well.
Have an excellent day and Namaste!

Picture is rather unrelated, but it, like the short story, involves a darker reflection of a lighter place.

I am both confused and intrigued by the picture. Which is to say I have absolutely no idea what is going on.

I am most definitely looking forward to Planet Hell. In the meantime, I imagine that I'll take a looksee at your other works. Pony related, or not. =3

I'm sure that you'll be able to make Planet Hell great. And I'll take a look at your DA story if I have the time.

And that is one strange dream Cooper had :rainbowderp:

Anyway, you also have an excellent day

I still have no idea what that is, but I do now have a name to stick on this inexplicable weirdness. Close enough.

That picture can never relate to anything.
I'm remembering it now.
Dear God, all those scenes were trippy to me...
