Cobra's fate · 2:40am May 28th, 2013

Although I plan a more in-depth blog posting on this, I figure it'd be all right to a 'quick and dirty' post Cobra's fate in the Hasbroverse...

First off, the background is about 80-85% from the Marvel comics, meaning that Cobra was competent. And that Cobra Commander was a used car salesman.

*****

*Waits for laughter to die down* No, it's true. He really was. I envision during his travels he encountered Cabra-La and the whole 'mutated scientist' thing was a cover concocted by him and Golobulous{sp} so he could get materials and such from them without too much suspicion. And the spore thing happened too, probably. Anyway...

Old Snake might not be the brightest bulb in the marquee sign, but he did have a finely-honed survival instinct. After the first few direct encounters between Cobra and the 'Cons resulted in the Cobra forces annihilated to the last man, he adopted the policy of not trying to antagonize the 40-foot tall war machines. Serpentor, however... he had impulse problems. One day during the mid-90's, he launched an assault on the Decepticon's underwater headquarters.

Megatron was initially amused, then angered. Cobra Commander, having come back just in time from some trip to see the assault launched, was scared shitless. He ran to his room, grabbed every single bank book/PIN number and whatnot, got back onto a hydrofoil with about a half-dozen of his most loyal soldiers, and took off without looking back.

After about two hours of recalling every single earthbound Decepticon and even calling Shockwave down from Cybertron, Megatron launched a multi-pronged assault on Cobra. Rumble, Frenzy and Ravage went to Extensive Enterprises Building in New York, the headquarters of the Crimson Guard, killing everyone inside before Rumble leveled the building. The Insecticons-all seven of them-and their Insecticlone hordes did their 'swarm of locusts' impression over the Dreadnoks' compound in the Florida Everglades. You can guess what they did...

And finally the main force swept over Cobra Island, glassing it to the bedrock and almost sending it back into the Gulf of Mexico. No one survived. All in all, by 2011, the year 'The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds' takes place, these are the only survivors of the Day of the Broken Fang:

1. Cobra Commander and those half-dozen soldiers who escaped with him. He retired to upstate New York and lives like a king.

2. Destro and the Baroness. they broke ties with Cobra a few years before and were not targeted. They married and have a young son. Currently MARS Corporation is a major weapons supplier, and the Iron Grenadiers are mostly used as security forces for offworld colonies too small or too far out for the Earth Defense Command to cover regularly. They are damned good at their job.

3. Storm Shadow. I use his Marvel origin, which is he and Snake Eyes were old buddies in Vietnam and... it's complicated. Really. Suffice it to say he broke CC's brainwashing and is in Tokyo, rebuilding the Arashikage ninja clan. He is once more Sword Brothers with Snake Eyes, who married Scarlett.

4. There are... rumors that Zartan made it out, but those are unsubstantiated. Coincidentally... a man by the name of 'Zeke' joined the EDC six months after Cobra's annihilation. But there's no connection there, right...

And so this is why there's pretty much no chance of Cobra ever appearing in any capacity in the Hasbroverse. Because there's nothing left of them.

Also, proofreading of the latest United We Stand chapter is proceeding apace and am awaiting word of it being done, and I'm about halfway done with the latest Twilight the Terrible post.

Man, Serpentor messed up.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

The car salesman is one of the reasons why I love the marvel comics so much! That and they have some great coninutity for the joes and Cobra in the series (Big Cobra fan by the way)

He adopted the policy of not trying to antagonize the 40-foot tall war machines.

That is a sound Plan.
Right up with not getting involved in a land war in Russia.

Wait, how is he Megatron in 2011? The movie happened in 2005.

1160635 This happened in the mid-90's, when he was still Megatron.

1161114 Ah, got it. Whelp too bad Zartan, the shapeshifter whose body was never found, is clearly dead. He was one of my favorite Cobra guys. If only this had been Sigma Six Cobra with its own robot army.

So, you're telling me at before Serpentor's final assault on the Decepticons that led to the total destruction of COBRA, COBRA and the Decepticons had a few skirmishes. They didn't feel like making an alliance or something.

And where was G.I. Joe and the Autobots during this "Day of the Broken Fang"? They just sat back and did nothing while the Decepticons annihilated COBRA.

And are you really saying that at least Old Snake might not make some kind of appearance in the Hasbroverse? Whatever is going to go down is only going to be relegated to Equestria and not spill over onto Earth where whatever "Corruption" can enlist the aid of Earthly villains?
