Writing Challenge

So, finals are nearly upon us, and I've got tons of programming to do for the next three weeks, so I doubt I'll have more posted until then. I do have a challenge though, for you writers who may happen to see this. Next time you have a few minutes to spare, sit down and write something different. Something you don't usually write, maybe something you don't even read. For me it was a romantic short story written on a bet, and I was surprised at how hard it was to write. I've always known little details were a weak point of mine, and trying to hit at attraction or feelings subtly really brought that fact to attention.

So if you usually write romance, take a shot at horror. If you love horror, take a shot at comedy. If you want, share your work or what you learned in the comments. Even if it comes out as poorly written as mine did, trying and experimenting is how writers get better, right? Well, that's my two cents for the day. Back to sorting algorithms and proofs.

...details are hard for me. I'm writing a new story and...yeah. This is my challenge.

*SLAM* The door shut hard, visibly cracking along the outer walls of the small apartment. A somewhat tall, eggshell coated and crimson red-maned unicorn mare stormed through it with a fiery temper, daring anypony to just try and mess with her. Nopony, of course, was there to do that so she just went along and kept up her tantrum.

‘Stupid jerks. Why can’t they just leave me alone? What makes me their target everyday?’ She thought as she angrily chewed on some stale bread from the cupboard. ‘I haven’t done anything to warrant the treatment they give me. And one of them had the gall to try and kiss me! I should have done more than just break his wing and leg.’

It's terrible, I know.

I'm actually planning a full-blown story that's similar to this. Most things I've written have been crossovers or things where are the characters have been established already, though I'm planning an entirely original action/adventure story that includes 2 dozen different OC's.
