I'm sure most of you know about this already, but if you've been under a rock like I have...JAPANESE DUB!

The third one is out, it seems, but only the Raw version...
Oh, my God. Why did I not know about this when it first came out? I was practically RAISED on anime, and I didn't know about this? Ugh, I'm ashamed of myself. ANYWAYS.
So, I really like Twilight's voice and Rarity's, though I gotta wonder how they're going to do the craziness of those two characters when it comes to those episodes.
My two favorite characters, Applejack and Rainbow Dash..HATE THEIR VOICES! Applejack sounds too cutesy and sweet and Rainbow Dash sounds older than she is. Mind you, some might argue that her token raspy voice makes her sound old already, but this is like...no, she sounds older than she should. We'll see if their characters come through in the episodes to come.
Fluttershy, I always suspected a Japanese dub would be right on the money with Flutters - her type of character comes up quite often in anime. But Pinkie....I mean, I had heard her voice before the show came out, and it was sooooo on the money, but MAN!! I can't believe it - she's is really Pinkie Pie!! Though, the Giggle at the Ghosties where she does the quick talking part at the end...she's kinda taunting the ghosties >_<
Oh, and I thought Spike's voice was adorable!
Hearing the ponies we all know and love use familiar Japanese terms I practically grew up with was sooooooo weird...and too cute. "Yoshi yoshi!"
Okay....now, for some little funny things...like Spicy Cake Sauce. >_< Why don't they make that?
"Making a kingdom of the night" sounds far more epic than, "the night shall last FOREVAH!" And her evil laugh is better. I always HATED Nightmare Moons evil laugh.
The Moon Pony? Makes her sound cute and less legendary, like Mare in the Moon, but lost in translation and all~~
Steve Magnet? I have no words for his voice/appearance...
...everything seems much more dramatic in Japanese, hehe.
So! Any thoughts on the episodes?

1014646 no, subs mean subtitles. Dub means voice over. If it was subbed in japanese but still english, then it would be sub.

Well I suppose that is true, but I was referring to the fact that it has subtitles not the Japanese speaking part, because I have already seen the raw version so I didn't read your blog very well and made assumptions based on incomplete data, sorry.
1014653 No problem. I've been in this game a long time, son. A LONG time. Back when the war of subbing and dubbing began. *everything turns to sepia and dramatic music plays up* Those were dark times...
pssh, I'm being dramatic, but yeah, I was referring to the fact that it's originally an English show and they dubbed it in Japanese.
I was excited about the Japanese version as well! I don't know why but to me the Japanese language is so awesome!
okay first off please don't hurt me, but I don't like anime very much.... not that I haven't watched anime I'm from the 90's Pokémon, Digimon, Dragon Ball Z, Cardcaptors.....Sailor Moon I watched those growing up (in English, mercy) haven't watched much since though okay lets give this a watch.

I think they replaced Applejack's cowgirliness with the Japanese equivalent stereotype, so an Osaka accent or equivalent.
I noticed there were some parts cut. I think it's because either it doesn't translate that well or the cultural differences makes it harder to understand.

Rarity's voice is a really good choice. Sultry is the term that comes to mind. But aj/dash are indeed not good choices.

Mostly to fit the extended openings/endings. Which are far longer than the original versions but fit the japanese ones. A few spots cut that really don't make much sense...

1014735 Heh, don't worry, it's been a long time since I've watched anime, and I know that it has it's...issues. Anyways, I agree with you on the Rarity voice thing - when I first heard, I was all, "I think I like hers the best, but I'm reserving my judgement for when she has to do more crazy stuff whether she is the best. And I know, Apple Bloom....that entire moment seemed ten times cuter!
1014822 I was going to say that about the Osaka accent, but I have no way to recognize it, so I didn't want to outright say it. It's usually what they do, though, when they have to get an accent.
1014859 yeah, about the cutting of parts - I wasn't sure if they were just trying to bide time since maybe the running time needs the show to be a little shorter or not, because I don't see a problem in keeping the "Thank you, sirs!" when the stallions drop off Twilight. But I'm sure other parts for the chopping board will probably be thinks that don't quite translate. I gotta wonder how they'll do the skunk scene in winter wrap up, since they won't know what a skunk is in Japan, or why Twilight then bathes in tomato juice. It was a thing for people watching the show pre-dubbed in Japan.

Yeah I get you and that is true it is originally English and now is dubbed Japanese however it is also subbed back into English.

I didn't like how they turned some phrases around and changed how characters interacted. To me it implied totally different personalities to the characters.

1015252 Yeah, some things are totally gunna get lost in translation. I watched the raw version of the Ticket Master episode, and when Twilight runs off, screaming, away from Applejack, she asks, "Are you okay?" instead of "Is....that a maybe?" >_< One of the few terms I know in Japanese.
