(Monty Python voice) I'm not dead yet

So as some of you may have noticed, I haven't been online in a while. Why?
    1. During the hiatus, I've been drifting away from this fandom and falling into different ones (aka the Les Mis fandom). I still like MLP, but I don't rewatch episodes every day and constantly think of new chapters for fanfics.

    This test is amazing.

    This test.

It was...actually pretty accurate. Fleur De Lis is definitely at the bottom of my list, and Lyra is definitely at the top. IT takes a little while to do, but if you're ever confused about your favorite pony, I suggest this test.

    My results:
    Rank Character
    1 Lyra
    1 Braeburn
    1 Gilda
    4 Sweetie Belle
    4 Caramel
    6 Princess Celestia

    Equestria Girls?

    Well.

    [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1Ta9i3YQAzM]

This...doesn't look horrible. There are actually some funny moments, like Twilight trying to eat the apple. And, okay, the designs are pretty terrible, and Cadence is in it (NO), but it doesn't seem that terrible.

    Rejection. Whoo.

Well, I just submitted Bearers of the Elements to Equestria Daily and got my first strike. The prereader said that it lacked emotion, Celestia and Luna were OOC and annoying, and it was just boring. Whoo.

Rejection. Whoo. · 3:23pm Apr 13th, 2013

Well, I just submitted Bearers of the Elements to Equestria Daily and got my first strike. The prereader said that it lacked emotion, Celestia and Luna were OOC and annoying, and it was just boring. Whoo.

While these are all completely valid concerns and it's not like they're being unreasonable at all, I don't feel like being reasonable right now. I feel like glaring at the computer screen and berating myself for making such an idiotic story.

Anyway, it's not that big of a deal and I'll get over it after a few minutes of hating all my stories, but I'm just pissed off at myself and I needed to rant. Thanks for bothering to read this.

Yeah, that rejection from EQD is tough. Hopefully they sent you a bunch of edits, though.

My question is: How do you feel about your story? Keep in mind, EQD pre-readers kind of set themselves up as the arbiters of quality, but they are just people. I've had lots and lots and lots of people say they really liked A Door Jam only that have the door slammed in its face by a pre-reader who hated it. It's not like he was picking up on some stuff no one else saw. He's not some amazing reader who can perceive the story on a different level. He's just a dude who didn't care for my fic, but he was the guy with the power.

What I'm getting at is that these people are not always right. I don't know in your case. That's up to you. If you read your story, and you think it's good, then ask some close friends. If they also think it's good, you may just have a pre-reader who doesn't like your style. Alternately, every author has to be honest with themselves. If you read it and feel uneasy at certain points, then he may have a point. But don't dismiss your story out of hand.

If you want, I can read it over for you and give you my thoughts. I'm not all that great with grammar issues, but I'm very picky when it comes to character/plot/dialogue.

Anyway, chin up. I know it sucks so much to get that rejection letter. I have wanted to put my fist through the screen so many times...

I have an entire blog post I've written but never posted on why the best pony fanfics are not on EqD. I'll send it to you, if you want.

Though I would like to point out that since we know next to nothing about Celestia and Luna in canon, it seems picky and elitist to claim they're OOC. 've heard of them telling someone this before, and I thought it was a dumb argument then.

1004525 I would like to know as well, would be interesting to know, if it's alright that is.

I went ahead and posted it on my blog, here.

1004934 Thank you, it'll provide a good heads up and awareness.

If it makes you feel better, The Night of the Annoying Mosquito was also rejected. The prereader seemed like a very nice guy but, while I can't argue with some of the reasons he gave (mostly grammar mistakes I missed due to English not being my first language), the others were, in my opinion, completely subjective, and I don't agree with them.

Cheer up. You're not alone on this, many others here had suffered the pain of rejection.

And I don't think your story is boring. I like it.

Have you seen the stories that make it to EQD? They seem starved for quality stories because other than the occasional updates, new stories are few and far between and often painfully boring. Seth posted a blog about a bat, for crying out loud.
