Now that I have gotten some feedback on what to do in order to get this onto EqD, I feel that things need to be changed.. again [facepalm] . I seriously wish I had done this a lot earlier before I even got this story published, but that doesn't matter. What is past cannot be retrieved. I can only move forward. I will change things, but I'm not taking this story down like last time. I'm keeping it up so it would still be available to read. There's always Microsoft Word and Text Edit for me to use to alter things ^^. Enjoy the story while it lasts, because it would be changed once again. However, I'll notify you when it's going to be changed. If this does not make it to EqD [it's already on its second strike] then I will change everything back to its original format. There's always another story to get into EqD ^^. [Yes, I have been thinking up of more stories. Yayy!] So I hope you all understand. Well... AllonSY!!
Sir, I honestly believe that your story is amazing as it is but, the problem is not the story but, the biased people who review the stories. I have yet to see a HiE story featured on that site regardless of how perfect the grammar was or how well the story flowed. The fact of the matter is that the Equestria Daily people are sometimes the worst bunch of scuzbuckets to ever exist.
Seeing as they take their personal tastes into account when reviewing the stories. Or at least that's how the rumor goes.
So I'd implore you to not destroy your story again just to please a bunch of people who probably won't approve your story because THEY don't like it as it doesn't fit their ideals of a good story. Not if it's actually good or not.

I'm going to have to agree with Camlio, the EQD guys are just kinda dicks.
Personally, I don't think it's worth all this trouble just to get this on EQD, just leave the story as it is already, you've done enough.
...And if it'll make you happy, I'm even planning to feature EFH in my youtube series 'FanFic of the Month'

Hey, guys. I'm the pre-reader who sent Cee's story away. It's obviously disappointing that a story you all like didn't get posted to the blog despite his rewrites, but I stand by the reasons I turned EFH down.
943733 A better way to phrase that would be that we only read as much as we need to in order to decide whether the story needs another moonshot or gets posted. When we have novels like Cee's here in addition to all the other stories pending our review, we just can't go through the whole thing. When we do decline a story, though, we always tell the author why as best as we can.

Regarding the personal taste issue: yes, we do have them, and we're well aware of that. That's why we have multiple pre-readers with non-overlapping areas of interest. I personally have some reservations with the standard take on the genre (human with life troubles gets sent to Equestria where things are better), but the major issues I found with EFH don't take those reservations into account.
I sent EFH away mainly because the prose fell flat for me. There was a lot of telling and exposition about how Connor's bullies were Bad Dudes or that Joshua was his best friend when that information could've been shown through scene, instead. You can say you're someone's best friend, or you could say how you drove three hours to pick them up from a far-off city in the middle of the night with a history exam the next morning, and you don't know who Napoleon is besides a flavor of ice cream.
Storytelling is more than making a list of actions, which I also found a lot in EFH. Good storytelling immerses the reader in the moment so he isn't reminded that he's reading in the first place. I shouldn't have to process "okay, I was told this guy's a friend and this guy's an enemy" if the friend pulls me shoes-first out of the garbage can the enemy dunked me into. I needed more scenes.
And before you guys jump my jacks and say "but Couch, it gets better after Connor makes it into Equestria!" remember that I didn't get that far. There's a reason writers push "the hook" so much in the business: no reader will pick up a story that doesn't impress them right out of the gate. I'm very happy for Cee that his story's doing well on FimFic (extremely well, at that), but better-written stories have done just as well, too.
I think I've rambled on long enough. PM Cee if you guys want more info on why I declined his story -- that information's his to divulge and mine to keep.
I know that feel. I just barely managed to keep my story away from a third strike (I had forgotten to check my inbox for 2 other e-mails they sent me in regard about it. I explained the situation to them, and they removed the third strike), and now it is in full revision mode, and I plan to find an editor to look over it before I even THINK to risk it again. It isn't a HiE fic, but still...
But like others have said, nearly every prereader there pretty much disapproves of HiE fics. It pretty much sucks.
