So there are a lot of rumors and junk flying around as to the future of the show, and I haven't found answers to a lot of them. What I do is that the future length movie we were promised is in fact the launch for this:
Equestria Girls
I know some of you don't mind anthroponies, but this is not the show I have grown to love over the last three years. Apparently it takes place in a high school setting with Principal Celestia... ya. I would be fine with it, but we have no idea how or if it will tie into the main show at all, and I will be sorely disappointing if this is how it all ends.
Another little rumor I have seen gaining traction is that Twilight may be getting phased out of the show and the unicorn Sunset Shimmer will take her place:
I really doubt this is going to happen as Hasbro is having this whole "Crystal Princess" celebration thing that features Twilight prominently, and they just spent a whole heck of a lot cash on promoting her ascension. Another possibility is that they jam her into the main cast. I think that wouldn't be the best of ideas as they are so short for episodes already, that we didn't even get an episode for Rarity this season.
That brings me to my next issue, what really is Twilight's future? Hasbro's promo material is pointing to her being The Crystal Princess, but that brings the question of what Cadance's role is into play. Then Lauren Faust says she intended for Twilight to be Celestia's successor, and with Celestia being pretty much my favorite character if you haven't noticed, that wasn't a good bit of news what so ever.
There is a great deal of negativity towards the show's future being thrown around, and I'll be honest and say it has pretty much killed most of the post finale enthusiasm I had. I haven't worked on any thing in over a week- what's the point when it looks like everything is heading down the drain?
Hopefully when we get some solid facts regarding season four and the "spinoff", my melancholic mood will leave, or at least I hope it does.

I saw one where they look human, without horns or wings but the skin being the color of their fur.
Equestria Girls does not exist. There. problem solved.

Kill me if i will become a fan of *that*, as if the skin=fur thing was bad enough.
Rumours are just that: rumours. Oh, and spinoffs usually don't effect the main series. Also, no one is forced to watch Equestria Girls. You don't have to watch it to stay a brony. I won't watch it, yet I'll still like mlp fim. Just stay calm, like me, and don't panic on what will happen in the future. We still don't have any information on the next season, yet.
Oh, and the thing about Twilight being Celestia's successor was Faust's original plan. Plans sometimes change.
I've also head rumors that Sunset is actually going to become Twilight's student.
Well there's a lot of things that Hasbro could do horribly wrong and equestira girls is one of them. However I do believe that if Hasbro gets it right they could make season four the best so far. If they get it, however, there'll be so many rage quitz that they will burn and the world will follow.
Blegh, the Crystal Princess thing is a step straight in the wrong direction (although I suppose worse could happen, like canon shipping). The recent news EG news is a slight improvement over the original leak. Having the school feature more characters from the main show is better than the alternative. At least it's just a spinoff.
A show about friendship and Twilight's role with her friends, and Twilight gets phased out. that would make zero sense.
I don't think Sunset Shimmer will be all that important.
I've heard that in the start of Season 4, the other mane 6 get turned to Princesses too, and instead of the show focusing on Twilight and her friends, the show will be about 6 new ponies, like Sunset Shimmer.
I've also heard that i just completely made up the above sentence on the spot and it's not based on anything but my imagination.
We only have a few solid facts: Season 4 will be 20=something episodes. the Princess Twilight story will continue at the start of Season 4.
As I understand it, the Equestria Girls thing is a TV SHOW, and the movie will be ponies as we know it. ALL of the details popping up--principal celestia, etc-- are rumors, not fact. The quote we have about it is "sending the pony heroes on a mission to a new world where they take on human form" and " is a completely separate show that will have no bearing on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic."
Relax, and don't worry. I'm positive that season 4 will be more of the same pony we know and love. Sunset Shimmer is probably just a pony who will feature in the season premiere, much like Cadence featured in previous seasons :) Don't listen to rumors. Anyone can make things up, or theorize wildly. I mean, look at this:
In season 4, Twilight Sparkle is overwhelmed by the new powers she has, and an old enemy takes advantage of her weakness, to transform her into the evil Crescent Darkness! The Elements of Harmony stand against her--with a surprising new addition to replace the element of Magic, and when Twilight is returned back to normal, she looks different and takes the name Sunset Shimmer instead to show that she's changed on the inside as well as the outside!
Which is complete bull I just made up out of my ass right now. :)
