Glowstone's Brief Reviews · 1:27am Feb 4th, 2013
Darkness. The fearful unknown. That which promises the absence of guarantees. A place where pain and suffering lurk, intermingling with malice and hatred.
I love a happy ending as much as anybody, maybe moreso. Light is what I seek and walk in, and in it's safety I do sleep. Still, I am fascinated by darkness. By the trials and tribulations of the fallen. Like Pandora and her box, I seek to find hope among misery, serenity amidst the maelstrom, the rising and redemption of those brought low. I hope some day to write about such things, to uncover my own true nature and write freely, pen to paper.
Well, until such a time as I find the time to spin my own yarn, I would like to shed some light on some of the stories that caught my eye among the multitude that I have so-far read.

A now-cancelled Fic, Growing Pains was one of the first MLP fics I read, and was my introduction to pony grimdark (and it's a ship-fic, no less!).
...
A Fusion Fic of Luigi's Mansion, Sweetie's Mansion manages to dip into the darkness enough to generate concern, but not enough to cause disgust or lasting unease. Currently ongoing, the writing is strong and the adventure well worth reading!
...
A Twilight-centred battlefic, now complete, discovering updates to The Moonstone Cup was one of the highlights of my day. It's like Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, except if the dragons, mermen and all the other races were also participants. Stunning matches, sneaky subplots, and general all-around awesomeness abound.
...
A dark adventure fic, it was one of the first, if not THE first fic I found. The Night That Never Ended explores the creepy nocturnal land of equestria in a timeline where "The Mare in the Moon" ended quite differently. Dark, unsettling, and at times heart-wrenching to read, this is a grimdark done right.

A short one-shot by the now-retired writer Chromosome, White Box impressed me immensely for it's creative integration of colour into the plot and story medium, and for the story it told with words left unsaid. I highly recommend the google-docs version for the full effect. A journey of self-discovery, White Box holds a special place in my heart.

I'm not sure if I can make this a regular thing or not, real life tends to surprise me like that, but in the mean time, enjoy the ~800k words worth of stories.
