My heart dropped once I saw all this. I had been hoping, in the back of my mind for weeks, that all those rumors about Alicorn Twilight would turn out to be false, like many other rumors that have been shot down in the fandom, but this one has been confirmed. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but so far, I haven't seen ANYBODY that was happy about this. A lot of angry, a bunch of unhappy, many dubious, handfuls calling to give it a chance, but not ONE SINGLE PERSON was happy or ecstatic about it.
This is the byproduct of living in America. Since Season 3 started, it's been nothing but disappointment and the stifling of the creative force behind what made Seasons 1 and 2 so great. The executive and business sectors of the industry have seen the great potential of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in generating MASSIVE revenue. It has a gigantic following now with the brony community and people who aren't bronies who just enjoy the show, especially since the show has gone international. They don't need creativity and imagination anymore. The executives can now move in and corrupt everything so they can suck out every last penny they can in profits. Celestia deliver us all from corporate greed.
If worse comes to worse, then I'll just remember this saying:
"Remember the good times, for nothing lasts forever."
and buy the DVDs for Seasons 1 and 2.
Personally, I can't wait for Twilight's Alicornication. In my opinion it'd be the best thing of season three so far.
Eh, I never really liked Alicorn Twilight. If it's going to be canon, then well, shoot. :/

771234 I'll admit, when I first heard about it being confirmed, I wanted to slam my fist against the wall. I'm in control of myself now though so I'm willing to give it a chance.
Prediction: Twilight is alicornified for the finale, possibly to accept a position as a princess. Something happens that calls the rest of the mane six to save the day (possibly while transformed as alicorns). They save the day, Twi realizes she couldn't possibly accept the position and leave her friends behind, and is returned to a regular unicorn to go back to Ponyville with her friends.
Results: No change, but now they can sell Alicorn toys over all the ponies!
It's as cravenly financially-driven as the crystal ponified versions in The Crystal Empire, the toys will sell, and we'll keep on having the show. Will I be annoyed? Yes. Will it ruin anything for me? Probably not.
Unless they keep her an alicorn. If that happens, I'll probably ragequit the show and just write MLP: FiM fanfiction from S1-S2 ep 12. I am, however, reserving judgement until the ep premiers.

771261 If it's completely temporary, then I will fall down on my knees and beg for the Princesses' forgiveness for my skepticism. If it turns out to be permanent (I've seen a lot of evidence for this) then I will probably stop watching the show and just stick with fanfics and art and music. Just gotta wait to see what happens.

Maybe it's just cause I'm older than the average writer on this site, but I've largely preferred to stick to the fanon than the cannon since season 2 ended. While I personally despise the idea of Alicorn twilight (oh fuck how many TwiLestia/TwiLuna writers are going to feel validated) I will be okay with it if the other five remain the central characters. If they do largely use it as a way to write off the other mane five, I quit the show and will remain as a fanfiction writer until I tire of it.

It could very easily be greed, however (and I say this next part as someone who works in video production) there is also the possibility that the show writers pitched an idea to the corporate overlords which they liked, and the toys came after the ideas.

Personally, Sleepless in Ponyville is my favorite episode of the series. So clearly this team is capable of great work. That said I'll remain cynical, that way I'll either be pleasantly surprised, or my expectations will be met.
Also, you ever wonder why it's Twilight who gets all the attention? If you think about it, without Rainbow Dash's Rainboom, she would have been nothing...

That's true, now that I think about it. Although Twilight IS the personal student of Celestia so I'm sure that garners some press time. Rainbow Dash does need a bit more attention considering she's the only one to EVER pull off a Sonic Rainboom, not once, but THREE times.

Out of the main 6 I believe Rainbow has been in the least amount of episodes, plus she gets less face time than any of the others. Which makes me very sad as she's best pony >_>

Even with my bias as one of the preeminent DashFire writers, the idea of a TwiDash focused episode would be amazing. Though to be truthful, I had held out hope that the writers would of had the courage to make Lightning Dust into Rainbow's canon marefriend. oh well.
771757 Well, I actually meant a friendship episode, not an actual romantic kind of episode. Just having the two bonding over something would be an awesome episode. That's why Reading Rainbow is one of my all time favorite episodes of the show.
