I happened to be logged on when my fic was posted yesterday, the first time that's happened actually. A minute or so later, I decided to check its page. And here's what I saw.
...What? It's at three views, five upvotes, and four downvotes.
(I miss the 90's) So let's see here, that's five... and three... and....and it makes no sense whatsoever. I'm fairly certain this has happened every time I've posted a story, and I've seen it around too. Shipping, Dark, and Human tags seem to get it most often.
Now, I'll probably never have the chance to meet those nine people in person and be able to smack them upside the head and ask what they were thinking, so I'll just have to do a little theorizing.
Surely no one on this site is so ignorant as to vote on a story solely based on the tags. That would be mean spirited and senselessly stupid. So it must be something else.
Maybe they're fans of the author, or they're anti-fans... or whatever, of the author. They just want to show their support when they see that they're favorite writer, or friend has posted a new story. A little friendly, pandering, showy, pat on the back. Considering literally no one here knows who I am, I find this one to be a little hard to believe.
Moving on.
Maybe they have the illusive, often toted zebra sense. Maybe they just instinctively knew that the story was shit. They could feel it in their bones, like and old man on a rainy sunday morning. Deep down in their marrow they just knew what was wrong with the story before reading it.
Probably not.
Maybe they're time travelers. They've journeyed a thousand years into the past with the sole objective of warning the hapless victims who might accidentally wander into the story. They need to warn wary travelers of the festering, pustuled slime they're about to be subjected to. The very fate of the universe depends on it.

I have a sinking feeling that I might be one of those nine people who voted without "viewing" the story. Though I have the excuse of already having read it so... yeah.
I know how you feel. my most recent story (which i won't link here so as not to look like a self-promoting douche) got 4 dislikes and 2 views within the first two minutes, and every rating afterwards was a thumbs up, so what does that tell you?
Just douche-bags being douche-bags, that's all.
oh, and if someone out there reading this is one of the people who vote without reading, go find a nice big fire and jump into it genitals first.
BTW, i read it, and i think it has good potential, so i gave it a thumbs up and I'll be looking forward to the future chapters.

Apparently alot of the Appledash get some autodown votes.
I find it cute, its like there's a shipwar going on and Appledash is the biggest threat.
