I was pretty pleased with myself when I wrote "Big Mac Reads Something Purple." And it was pretty popular. So I was indignant when EqD rejected it, saying, "The writing seems very flat, where character does this, character does that, character said, etc."
Now, a half a year later, I can finally look at the story and say: That anonymous reviewer was right. Sometimes they're wrong. This time, they were right. I wanted to read the story to my nieces, and I re-read it and imagined their reactions, and they lost interest and ran off to do more exciting imaginary activities.
The revised story is 800 words longer. Almost all of the changes are in the first chapter. If you remember the original version of the first chapter (which is still online at ponyfictionarchive.net), I'd be interested in whether you think the changes are for the better.

It's amazing how perspective comes with time. My first fics aren't even close to approvable, and it's very easy to tell the difference now.

I told you earlier that Big Mac Reads Something Purple was one of my favorite fanfics, and it still is. (Maybe that's not as precise as it could be; it's top 3, and the other two are probably Fallout: Equestria and HPMoR.) I like both versions: I enjoyed the economy of the first version, but the new version is certainly more fleshed out. The additional description at the start sets the scene better; I particularly enjoyed the tourist line.
(Both versions have "neuroponynomic" missing an 'o' in chapter 2 and 3, though.)
