Knuckles Show Review (Non-Spoiler) · 6:48pm April 28th

So I watched the Knuckles show. And after I spend a day processing it, I have... mixed feelings on it. :unsuresweetie:

I'll try to keep this review as non-spoiler as possible in case if anyone wants to see the show themselves. I might do a full spoiler review someday if anyone is interested and after the show is around long enough. But for now, here are my thoughts:

While the show started out strong and had some cool Easter eggs from the games in episodes one and two, episodes three and onwards, however, was when the show fell apart for me in my opinion.

The main thing is that Knuckles gets pushed to the sidelines as the show progresses and Wade gets more attention in the spotlight.

Don't get me wrong. I like Wade. He is funny and fun in his own right and his story with his family was heartwarming (for the most part), but I didn't watch the Knuckles show to see Wade, I watched the Knuckles show to see Knuckles! I expected to see more character growth in our favorite red echidna as he was trying to adjust to living on Earth as his home now (at least, that's what I was expecting), but instead, that plotline felt more like an afterthought as they put more story onto Wade.

Heck, there was an episode in which we only get ONE MINUTE of Knuckles, and then we get Knuckles' backstory in a most bizarre way while Wade was in a costume.

I am not kidding. :applejackconfused:

Even the main "bad guys" in the show were unmemorable. Heck, they are barely in the show too. It was a real shame too because at least two out of three of them were potential from what we learned about them and why they act the way they are if they had time to develop. Instead, they came out generic to me and were gone just as they showed up. Even the final battle between the Buyer and Knuckles, while cool, only lasted for less than a minute.

And then the show just ends. :rainbowhuh:

And if anyone is hoping that there is a "hidden teaser trailer" for an upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie during the credits... there isn't. :applejackunsure:

While the show isn't bad per se, it wasn't that great either in my opinion. I just wished they put more focus on Knuckles himself instead of using him only half of the show since the show is supposed to be all about him. Again, I don't mind Wade as a character and his story is fine, but it needs more balance between the two instead of having one side character overshadowing the main character, you know?

The only good things I have to say are Idris Elba once again did an awesome job voice acting as Knuckles, the animation is pretty decent for show standards, and the fight scenes with Knuckles (whenever he showed up) were fun and epic. Even some of the music choices were good picks, although I wish they included Unknown from M.E. in there too, even as the show's main theme, but oh well. *shrugs*

Overall, the show was... okay. I didn't like it or hate it either. I just wished they could've done more with it in my opinion and I hope that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will do a better job. If anyone who happens to watch this show and likes it, then that's fine. More power to you, but I like the two Sonic movies more and did a better job in my opinion. And if some of you haven't seen the show yet, then don't let me or anyone else keep you from watching it and judge it for yourself.

Now I'm sure I know what all of you are thinking: "Am I going to include the "Knuckles Show" in my Sonic/Equestria girls universe series?" This show was a make-or-break-it for me for my overall series, but after watching it myself... I think I can safely say that I'm going to skip this one since this has no impact on the upcoming Sonic 3 movie. I might include some aspects of the show in my upcoming spin-off story someday, but we'll see.

UPDATE: Let me clarify on something. When I say for my upcoming "spin-off story," I was actually referring to a chronicle story of various events that we don't see during the events of EqG:StH 1 & 2 stories, not the Knuckles show. I might consider using some parts from the Knuckles shows in the chronicle story too, but we'll see. :applejackunsure:

It could work if you make a story centered around Knuckles and Fluttershy's brother.

What you think?

Well reviewed, Sonic. And A+ on the Meme usage.

Twin fists up because I loved it and find it funny

Plus the guy who kicks Zephyr Breeze out of his bowling team would be Iron Will and gives the open spot to Babs Seed. Wdyt?

So Knuckles got the Godzilla 2014 treatment huh that sucks, what happened to the hard work from the movies?

I feel the same way about the show. It started well, but after ep 3, things went downhill and there were many things I wish they could've done better. And in the way I'd rank it with the 2 movies, well, I think this says all.
1. Sonic 2
2. Sonic 1
3. Knuckles tv show

I'm hoping the third movie will be better as I've somewhat lost faith in most TV shows and movies the last year thx to the writer and actor strike. And it'll likely be another year at least til we've recovered from it... :ajsleepy:

P.S. I also agree on possibly skipping on making an eqg version of the show into a story on this site.

I 100% agree with the rank. They really could've done better with the show. :unsuresweetie:

That is because the writers for the show were different then the writing team from the movies and there were also five different directors for six episodes of Knuckles, including Jeff Fowler (the original director of the Sonic movies) who only directed episode one of the show. Go figure. :applejackunsure:

Thankfully, the upcoming Sonic 3 movie won't be like the Knuckles show according to this guy on Twitter:

Here's hoping that the next film is good! 🤞

P.S. While I'm not doing the EqG version of the Knuckles show, I may include some elements of the Knuckles show for my upcoming EqG/Sonic Chronicles story, but we'll see.

Probably being focused towards the third movie, aka the project everyone wants to see.

5778554
I think it might be better to see what elements from the TV series are referenced or made into the third movie before deciding to skip it. For all we know, there could be a connection we're not seeing because it's theoretical second half hasn't been shown yet. Alternatively, you could put your own spin on it, like revamping the plot into something more Equestrian Girls-like.

5778546
That's a very cynical way of looking at things, TBH. Me? I'm just working overtime to find the positives, and holding onto them as tight as possible until the next one comes along. Either that, or I'm brainstorming new scenarios according to whatever I watch, even if I think they're great.

Wasn't that a problem with the second movie as well? I remember there was that one "girls break in" segment of the film.

It's because the writing team for the movies are different then the writing team for the show. They even have different directors for six episodes, including Jeff Fowler himself (who did the two Sonic movies). He only directed the first episode, which funnily enough, is my favorite episode of the whole show.

You have a good point. They sorta referenced the events from fifty years ago (aka Shadow) at the end of the last episode, although they could've handled that better IMO. And it's also possible that Wade has become more confident after this show, but we'll wait and see.

And yes, I could give the show my own spin to my EqG/Sonic stories, but it will be WAY different then what we got in the show. But for now, I'll think on it.

5778563
I don't mind a new take on it - it could both test your skills as a writer, and as stated below, maybe allow for Zephyr to grow as a character.

5778561
I don't think so. It's not as long or as bad as people claimed in the wedding portion of the movie, and at least the human characters in the movie are more likable and memorable then the human characters in the show (except Wade and Maddie of course) IMO.

5778562
Yeah they should’ve have him done the other 5.
