Life Update · 2:40am April 2nd

Hi, folks,

Quick update for anyone waiting for more Sensation: Appleloosa or To the Flamespire.

Both of those have chapters that are in-progress. I am trying to find time to write, but it's been rough going lately.

My job took an unfortunate turn late last year. My supervisor retired, and after months of saying that they were going to replace him, they haven't. I had hoped to apply for the job myself, but due to a number of issues, they aren't back-filling right now. I'm the only one on my team that goes into the office (there's a lot of remote work), which has led to me picking up a lot of the slack from a missing leader in the org. In some ways it's a good opportunity, but in others, it's very much a "do more work without any pay raises or promotions." Suffice to say, I'm currently applying for other jobs, but it's slow going.

Second, my son's sleep schedule has undergone a major change. He's only 2, but he's not going to sleep until 9 or later every night. No idea what caused it, but it basically means that I'm in either work or parent mode from 6am to 9pm or later each day, and then I have to do all the dishes, laundry, shopping, etc. that we couldn't get done during the day. It leaves very, very little time for writing, and I'm finding it very difficult to motivate myself to start writing at, like, 10pm when I know I'm already cutting into much-needed sleep.

The third issue is a little harder. I'm not drawing a ton of inspiration from pony lately. After giving Ciderfest everything I had, it's been hard to ramp up to other projects again. Just feels like I've burned out a bit, and it's not like I have time to even sit and watch an episode or get inspired by fandom stuff these days.

Finally, we got some unhappy news today. Everyone's fine, but there's a personal matter that's extremely disruptive to a plan we've had for 5+ years now, and it's going to take a lot of work to get it back on track.

I still intend to finish both projects. Thank you for being patient with me. I hope that it will get easier this summer after a few other things settle down.

Be kind to each other. I love you all.

I'm so sorry to hear all that. I hope things get easier soon, and I'm wishing the best for you and your family.

Sorry to hear things aren't going so hot for you, I hope they improve. n_n

Yeah, I get the work thing. I’ve been an acting lead for about a year and they haven’t managed to find another person. Or a new manager after the last one quit after having to manage two teams for to long.

Take your time, I’ll still be here. I hope things get better soon.

Ah, life has a way of being hectic like that. I, for one, am very happy and grateful for what you've given us in terms of fiction. Received your ref for Bronze, but never got around to answering, I'm so sorry for being so harebrained.

Take your time, and here's to things getting easier for you!

Lots of sympathy, vivid - take your time. All the best

Sorry about all that. I had to get a second job, because my primary job’s stopped giving any hours, almost entirely. Anything related to the tech sector is contracting. My second job is at Jewel-Osco. I started at the new in-store Starbucks (even though I don’t drink coffee) but it apparently hasn’t met the projected sales goals. So everyone’s hours were cut. Fortunately, the manager was open to me cross training for another department. I’m starting tomorrow.
