I mean, Plagiarism is a serious thing. But it is frustrating that stories can't be made with same plots but take different directions than others. That's not really plagiarism is it?

This isn’t what the petition is intended for, and that kind story is not even banned in the first place. This whole situation spawned from someone getting their story removed because it turned out they had copied wholesale the script of another property. The petition is meaningless because the thing it’s supposedly for is something you’re already allowed to do.

Compare a story where Nightmare Moon’s return starts the same but diverges, to a story where the “author” has just copied down the transcript from the actual episode and tried to pass that off as their own thing. The latter is what this petition is advocating for allowing.

This 'petition' is a load of crap. Crossovers and similar plots are allowed, but not when they're too close to being word for word. A few small changes are not enough to say that it's not plagiarism, because it is. You're not using your own ideas, you're taking ideas from other shows or stories, making a few small tweaks, and passing it off as your own work. That's still plagiarism, like it or not. @$%& off with this stupid petition

• Stories you did not write. If you are not the original author or a co-author, you cannot post it, even with permission. This includes “novelizing” a comic, movie, game, etc. that you did not create. For example: a Halo crossover with the same plot, scenes, dialogue, etc. but with the characters replaced by ponies.
