MLP's potential is UNRIVALED and UNTAPPED. · 6:01am February 11th
HI. Sorry, but I just wanted to vent about this somewhere, and I decided FIMFiction's blog page is better than Youtube's community tab.
I was talking with someone about this earlier, and I just wanted to put it somewhere more permanent. I personally think that MLP's potential, as a franchise, is almost UNRIVALED in the entertainment sphere. Lauren Faust really put work in when designing this world and the characters that inhabit it. I don't think I can ever properly articulate how much potential MLP has, and I don't think I ever will.
I can imagine entire TV shows based on where Sombra came from, Flurry Heart's future, Equestria before the reunification of the tribes, the events between G4 and G5, Luna's downfall, Sunset Shimmer's banishment, Trixie Lulamoon's backstory, Starlight Glimmer's backstory, and the list could go on for quite a long time. No wonder why the fanfiction scene for MLP is so fucking extensive. There is literally thousands of stories to be told in this universe, and unfortunately, I feel like Hasbro is just sitting on their hands. I feel like money is being left on the table for them, and stories untold for us.
I'm gonna be controversial for a second- and bear with me, please, and try and hear me out. I would rather have a soft-reboot of the franchise, (no more Twilight, Sunny, or any of that,) in exchange for more and better told stories.
I don't know. What do ya'll think? It's late at night, and the words on this page are starting to blur together for me. Like I said, I just can't get over how untapped the potential for this franchise is. I mean, Hasbro, you literally had both female and male audiences of all ages interested in your franchise, and you did nothing with that? That's literally free money. No longer would they be advertising to the kid to convince their parent to buy a toy, they could advertise directly to the purchaser! I feel like I'm rambling.

There is some truth to your words I admit, they really are missing out on telling stories of other characters or places in G4 and if they did a soft reboot of G5 like just retcon everything after the movie or all of G5 and write a better story, they could really make it work.
And that's all before you get into just how fascinating the world they created is. The races, their histories, as well as the world history in the show are just so novel compared to other franchises that there ends up being massive amounts of material just sitting around that only works in the mlp universe.
Changelings, Kirin, Bat Ponies, and so many others are practically left untouched when they are such interesting creatures with unique premises unlike anything else.
And there are so many historic periods that can be explored. What was it like before the three tribes unified? They could have a whole show about the world at that time, what led to them breaking apart, as well as the full story of how they came back together to form Equestria.
The can expand so much more on Luna's descent into Nightmare Moon and what led to it, as well as what happened to Equestria afterwards.
And they already introduced a slew of alternative timelines, they have a pretense for writing stories of Nightmare Moon's Equestria, or the resistance against Chrysalis after she took over.
There are so many potential stories that can be told yet. I agree wholeheartedly that this has lead to the massive amount of fanfiction, and I personally have noticed that there are a ton of ideas that haven't even been touched yet.
I can't say what's best for Hasbro from a business perspective, but they really are sitting on a goldmine of potential stories to tell.

Particularly with Flurry Heart's future. You have a series right there.
Very much the best part of MLP is about the stories we have. There are much more things to be done in our fandom and we can achieve far more if we work together and the best evidence is the acticity on this site alone, likely the best fanfiction website there is so far. From stories, bronies can make pictures, music, and even host massive conventions and video games. We've got potential, no doubt.
I don't really like talking about Hasbro because companies are like big machines that will only confuse us if we're on the outside, but hopefully they'll put that copyright and resources to use and make excellence happen more often. (I mean this is only G4 which began from G1. The line's probably not stopping soon)
Anyway, all we have to do is to be ourselves and give support to better creations we like. The best work of art is created by love and devotion after all.
