New Story Idea - What would YOU like to see? · 5:30pm Sep 16th, 2023
Hello. I was workshopping the idea for a new story, and I wanted your thoughts on it. I know that throughout Generation 5, especially relating back to Generation 4, is a little bit of a sore spot for the community. So I was wondering how this would pan out.
The idea is this:
After the events of Chapter 4, (maybe by the time this is done being written, after Chapter 5,) the New Mane Six (Mane 5 plus Misty) begin experiencing what I could only describe as strange hallucinations. Chapter-by-chapter, the 'ghosts' of the previous Mane Six from Generation 4 show up. Nopony else can see them besides the character who is the focus of that chapter. Most of the 'ghosts' are just as confused as the New Mane Six are, wondering how they got there, and why they are there.
After a while, we get to Sunny Starscout, who has the 'ghost' of Twilight Sparkle. Twilight, being an Alicorn and the ruler of Equestria for a short period of time, does know what is happening, as she is the one who caused them to hallucinate. She quickly explains to Sunny where Old Canterlot is, and where to find a projection Crystal that the old Twilight had left them as a worst case scenario. Turns out, this actually is the worst case scenario.
The New Mane Six go to old Canterlot, find the projection crystal, return to the brighthouse, and with help from the Unity crystals, it begins playing. Crystal Twilight explains that Opaline has scorch-earthed a good portion of Equestria, and is coming for Canterlot next, mind controlling ponies for her army and killing anything that stands in her way. Crystal Twilight is obviously tired and ragged, and we get the distinct impression that this Twilight is on her last leg, and on the verge of total failure.
She explains that she is going to lock magic away for an indeterminate amount of time, and with the help of the old and drained Elements of Harmony, which still have the essence of the long-since dead Mane Six, minus Twilight, who is still alive. Basically, the Mane Six's souls are bound to the old Elements.
"I hope they don't mind coming back from the afterlife- of course, if there is one. I- I hope they won't mind one last round in the Anthropocene."
The New Mane Six are reveled to be reincarnations of the original Mane Six. Twilight enchanted the elements, and after Harmony (or what's left of it) decides Equestria need a new hero, and to finally defeat Opaline, they would return. Twilight admits that she isn't very sure what form they would return in, whether they would pop into existence, flesh and all, or be reborn, and admits that creating this crystal projection is worse-case-scenario if they can't remember anything. The New Mane Six can't remember anything, of course.
I'm not sure how the story would end. Maybe they hug it out? Maybe they're concerned that they've never had a concious thought in their lives and were only following what Harmony has laid out for them? IDK. If you have any suggestions, or would like to see anything changed, then this is the time to do it. I haven't written anything, and I would like this story to be pretty self-contained and not very long.
If your wondering who I chose for the elements, this is it:
Izzy - Pinkie Pie
Pipp - Rarity
Zipp - Rainbow Dash
Sunny - Twilight
(These two last ones are interchangeable, honestly, but I feel like this makes the most sense.)
Hitch - Fluttershy
Misty - Applejack (Since Applejack is the Element of Honesty, I feel like it could be a good story moment where Misty talks to Applejack about how bad she feels for lying so much to her now friends, and maybe, how Applejack tells her that it's alright, and that it was just what she thought was right at the time.)
If you want to see something changed in this story, or think that something else would pace better, please comment. I want everyone to be happy IF I decide to write this story. Maybe instead of a crystal projection, Ghost Twilight could just tell Sunny outright? I chose the crystal projection because it makes her telling the entire group easier than Sunny parroting what Ghost Twilight was telling her.

Just the concept of the spirits of the Elements of Harmony enduring in G5 alone is very interesting to me!
