This is how many words I wrote for my newest story: · 3:19am Mar 5th, 2023

I wrote Do It For Her, and it took a lot out of me.

I have written approximately 100,000 words for this single story. And, unfortunately, only 38,000 ever made it to publishing. Am I crazy?

If you want a more detailed look into Do It For Her, please read the story, then watch my Behind The Scenes video linked here.

What did you make this on?

Libreoffice Writer.

There must be some useable content in there. Maybe there’s another story or a side-story?

It’s a type of word program, like Microsoft office, but free and open source. I used it back when I tried daily driving Linux, and I liked it so much that I can’t switch off it.

So, I loved the story, but did it really need this many attempts to get to where it is? Are you crazy? Probably a bit... :twilightoops:

It sort of makes me feel inadequate by comparison, but tat the same time I'm fairly certain doing that many attempts wasn't necessary.

Probably not, but this story was DEAD. If you go back to one of my older stories, late night conversation, it was actually just a chapter from an earlier draft.

I really like the found family trope, and I wanted to make sure I did it right. And I didn’t think I was doing a good enough job, so I stopped. Then, a while later, a user named Discombobulated Soul commented, and I gave them a few early drafts of the story. They urged me to finish it, and I basically restarted writing.

That’s why there are so many attempts. It takes me about three drafts of one chapter until I’m happy with it, so compound that by me restarting writing the entire thing, the final result is a bunch more words than I needed.

Fair enough. I'm curious, have you messed with AI at all? I've been experimenting to have it re-write small paragraphs in unpublished works.

Ive had my fair share of fuck around with AI. I tried experimenting with writing back when Chat-GPT first came out, but I was disappointed and gave up. I've never incorporated AI in any of my stories. Although my PFP (as of 12/3/23,) is AI generated, as I've screwed around with purplesmart.ai a bunch. It's not like I'm screwing an artist out of money, or anything, as I can draw, just not very well. If people have a problem with it, I've told myself I'd redraw it in my own style. But I think it's pretty cute.

I see you've been pretty active in my comments, so I'll also just link my Youtube Channel in case you're curious.

I see. And I know of your channel ^^

Lately it seems to be pretty good at small things. So you feed it a paragraph and ask for a re-write or suggestion and you get something much better than your first rough draft.

I don’t think I mind it when other people use AI to help write themselves, like as a tool. I think the problem comes from when AI tries to make its own story with its own ideas. I don’t see anything wrong with using AI to fix grammar mistakes, things of that nature.

I perfer to stay away from AI when doing something creative, unless it’s like chopping out the background from an image. I think I’m already pushing my luck with my profile picture, so I’m pretty afraid of the backlash.

Oh, I agree. If someone tries to create an entire story using AI, they deserve a ban lol. I see it as a tool too. But not just for grammar. I had it re-write a few small paragraphs in a crossover fic I'm working on because what I had just wasn't nailing the tone and finer details that I wanted. After around three, I figured out exactly what it needed which helped me finish the rest myself without the aid of the AI.

Though, I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish to keep going back to it since it's often difficult for me to write such fanciful scenes so often when I'd prefer to stick to dialogue and direct actions.
