So in my last blog, a reader asked how taking the Lifesteal Hand of Malenia mod and fighting her with a considerably buffed version of her own weapon would turn out.
After speedrunning Journey 8 in one sitting, I went to find out. This katana is very fun to use, and I still think it should be this way in the vanilla game, but it is no "I Win" button, to be sure, especially not this high up in difficulty (enemies scale up with more damage and more HP every NG+, up to Journey 8. The scaling for bosses is even more dramatic).
So, was I able to go blow for blow and solo a Journey 8 Malenia?
In short? No, not really. If the embedded link above doesn't work, here's a direct link.
It's easy to see the most obvious problems; beating Malenia this late in the game requires either Let-Me-Solo-Her-levels of memorization of her moveset, or as I've always pulled it off, two-on-one with a spirit summon and a grand total of four great hammers. Because heal-on-hit or no, Malenia's damage output is fucking insane, and it only takes one or two slip-ups on my part to go down. Secondly, the Hand of Malenia is one of the longest katanas in the game, but the player's katana moveset hardly ever takes advantage of that. Swings and sweeps could be much longer and wider, like hers, but are almost always kept close to the body, save for the charged forward thrust, which I use one or twice.
So, yeah, that's what I was up until 4:30 in the morning doing last night. Honestly, it was fun.

So it took me this long to realize how BS it is that the superboss can heal herself. And yeah, I see what you mean. I mean, the lifesteal effect you get is substantial in its own right, but it does not take much from her to kill you, and if the handling on the weapon type just isn't up to it, it's not going to make a difference.

Yeah, what has me worried is that now that I'm at this point of the game, I really don't want to start the DLC at this level when it comes out. At the same time, starting over from scratch is a very, very tough pill to swallow.
Wondering if it's too much to hope that Fromsoft lets us dial the scaling down for the DLC.

ER is my first Souls game, I have no idea how Fromsoft does their expansions. I've heard that they're treated as endgame.

I very disagree with that. Science IS arguing. Science is constantly changing. correcting and otherwise being proven wrong.
That's why the anti-science crowd hate it. It's constantly changing and becoming more accurate.
I will 100% disagree with that statement because I refuse to accept this as the peak of my life, to accept otherwise would be giving up on life and future.

I think actually in agreement here even though it feels like we're arguing... I'm not sure if there is actually a word for that.
For the record, the context around when I first heard that poll was someone saying that you shouldn't worry about getting older.
