Finally, a Fic Exchange for ME!

So Jinglemas has passed for 2023.

I wrote a story "in spirit" that year.

And yet, somehow, some way, the writing gods seem to be handing me another chance on a nice silver platter.

I'm not going to lie, getting that message in the Odd Squad Discord server was absolutely shocking. Very coincidental, but shocking all the same. As I hadn't worked up the nerve to join FiMFiction's Jinglemas 2023, seeing this in the General channel was a lovely gift.

Did I join? Absolutely. How could I not.

Am I going to write a fic? Absolutely. How could I not, even with all the FiMFic stories I have on backlog.

Will it have something, anything, to do with MLP as a franchise? Nyehhh...don't bet too much on it.

I'll start by saying that I've been reading the fic Promising Skies as of late. It's a songfic (i.e., a fic largely inspired by a song) written by Shroom, one of the lovely people in the server, who writes Olive about as well as Eileen writes Equestria Girls. Which is to say, she's amazing at it. Talented, brilliant, amazing, show-stopping...yeah you get the gist. It wasn't until Chapter 6 was published (through Google Docs, as all of the chapters are at first) that I realized where the fic was going, and it was one hell of a twist I wasn't expecting. I've written Olive here for over a year and this madman did it in less than a week using their love of the character from when they were a kid. Absolute insanity.

But I digress. Shroom isn't running the fic exchange -- it's Cacti, one of the other lovely people in the Odd Squad server. And really, to say I'm incredibly grateful for her coming up with the idea and following through with it would be a complete understatement.

Let's be honest. I really wanted to join Jinglemas this year, I really did. But while part of it was nerves, the other part of it was the lack of commitment. With so many stories on backlog and my incredibly busy life outside of the world of fanfiction, plus my ADD and my lack of muse mashing together like a brain in a blender, I had fears I wouldn't complete my story in time. And so, I decided to opt out. After seeing the group's recap forum post...I think my idea was on the wiser end of things.

Whether I do an MLP story for the Secret Valentine's Exchange largely depends on the circumstances. I don't know if I'll be getting an MLP-related request, or at the very least one that falls under site rules enough that it can stay on the site and subsequently piss people off that it's not totally about ponies...or humans...or dragons...or- well yeah you get the idea. Maybe I'll aim for a crossover fic made in spirit, one that's outside of my current backlog. Who knows. I'm currently finishing up You Have a Collect Call and I hope to have it out by next week so that I can pump at least one straight MLP story out before the exchange begins.

Whatever I end up doing, though, I hope all of you reading this (followers and non alike) enjoy what I have in store, at least on the FiMFic side of things. And maybe on the Odd Squad side too, if the franchise is of interest to you.
