    My roguelike journey

You know what I love? Roguelikes. They're the best genre.

Level 4 human reaver wielding a +2 short sword of protection. That's the only picture you're getting with actual graphics in this post.

    Crystal Brighthouse floor plans

While mulling a G5 fic idea over recently, I realized that I wanted a better idea of the layout of the Crystal Brighthouse, to be able to properly describe the place where the mane five mares live. So I searched for Brighthouse floor plans, figuring someone must have already done this, but to my surprise, I couldn't find a thing.1

Well then. Guess it's down to me.

    Opaline's plan in a nutshell

OPALINE: I want Sunny to embrace her alicorn magic so that I can steal it, somehow!
OPALINE: Actually I want the magic from the Unity Crystals! That's the real source of the ponies' power!
OPALINE: Actually I want the Prisbeam power from that magic lantern!
OPALINE: Actually forget all those things! I want that baby dragon's dragonfire!

    Jinglemas 2023!

Well, the World's Strongest Writer encouraged me to blog about it, so I guess I can't do my usual thing of keeping it a secret until the last possible moment. I'm doing Jinglemas this year! I feel like giving it a go, and Ghost Mike has always suggested I try it and what's the worst that could happen?

Jinglemas 2023! · 12:15am Nov 10th, 2023

It helps that I've had some practice at competition writing this year with the Thousand Words Contest II, which yielded the reasonably okayish The Shadows Before Dawn. I also helped Mike with prereading and ideas for two of his past Jinglemas entries, which gives me some familiarity.

The hard things for me, I think, will be figuring out how to be appropriately festive, and figuring out to do with the prompt when I get it because writing are hard. But I'm looking forward to the challenge.

what's the worst that could happen?

(But seriously, the worst is that the breezie team picks up. It's a fun event and it's great to have you.)

The closest that I have ever come to participating in Jinglemas was a Spring giving contest thing that had a similar premise... but no breezies (I (and a few others) didn't get anything back in the end). Towards the end of the year, I've just never had the time, though maybe that isn't helped by the fact that it's often on the heels of judging for FoME's annual contest. This year, I don't have the time for either of those things, which I find sad.

figuring out to do with the prompt when I get it

Random(ish) prompt and a commitment to write the best story out if it no matter what? I do have some experience with that, if you run into trouble. :derpytongue2:
