Man... This kind of sucks and this movie disappointed me... Why? Because of the fact that Sunset Shimmer being a horrible bully who treated everyone else at that school like mere toys yet she gets offered Friendship by Twilight and redeemed here. That is what the writers wanted to show yet even after everything that happened here, The writers made it so that these sirens can never be reformed and offered Friendship? It would have been better if everything that Sunset learned and from her communication with Princess Twilight through the magic journal, Sunset had a realization about that and offered her friendship to the Dazzlings and they learn from Sunset. That's a better narrative for Sunset to spread friendship on this world while Princess Twilight does back in Equestria. That is good!! But the writers here? Noo!!!

The Dazzlings, without saying it in the music festival or after losing their magic, clearly didn't want redemption. Of course, Sunset was having problems of her own during that festival, but that's beside the point. You can agree or disagree with the writing though, opinions and all that.

I understand miles, Though what do you disagree about with my statement on the movie? If Sunset was a former bully of Canterlot High who even plotted to take over Equestria and got a second chance then why don't the Dazzlings? They are not as bad as Chrysalis or Tirek.

But if you want to talk about bad writing, I'll humor you:

I admit, I was highly, highly looking forward to perhaps seeing a face turn from the sirens as the trailer for Sunset's Backstage Pass heavily teased, but that never happened, and shortly after the EqG plug was pulled without Sunset getting any kind of meaningful conclusion for her arc.

Personally, the fact that Sunset's homesickness was consistently cut out at the last minute is G4's biggest flaw.

Seriously. The fact that Sunset originally had a singing part in "What More Is Out There" and the diner scene where she admitted to Twilight that she wondered if there was more for her waiting back in Equestria was storyboarded and had dialogue recorded is all the proof I need to say that it was a last minute cut before Friendship Games was finalized.

The showrunner even said that the next film they had planned was Sunset meeting her human counterpart. That never materialized before production on Equestria Girls was abruptly halted.

9 years...? God I feel old... I'll never not be incredibly salty that Equestria Girls didn't get a satisfying ending. Sunset was such a good character and she deserved the spotlight way more that Starlight Glimmer.

I honestly never quite got into EQG as much as Pony, but I definitely liked this song. One of my canonical faves.

Parts of it are good. I'll vouch for Rainbow Rocks and the Wallflower one among others, but the first one wasn't that great. Plus, as far as a defeated villain actually wanting redemption, I didn't find it all that believable for Sunset to feel remorse at the end of the first one. It just comes out of nowhere. But yeah, EqG ended without a proper resolution.

Plus, I've heard one person complain about EqG basically being Hasbro trying to compete with Monster High using FiM characters, and essentially dividing the writers between two different projects to the detriment of both.

Yeah, a lot of people said it was a Monster High knock-off. Also the fact that it came right after Twilight got her wings and the ensuing controversy probably didn't do it any favors.

Equestria Girls holds a special place in my heart as it's what got me into MLP, even after Gen 4 was over. And it's also what led me to search for fan stories about Sunset Shimmer, who's now my favourite character in the entire franchise.
