maybe in a world of odd people and odd things, I'm not so odd after all. But who knows. (they/them)

Hello from a new computer! · 2:54pm Aug 26th, 2023

My Chromebook is having hardware issues and I'm at British college very soon, so I have a new laptop. A Windows one. Not my choice, because I'd choose Chrome OS and Android over any other operating system any day of the week, but the software which I now have to use for my music exams only runs on Mac OS and Windows (the horror...) so I guess it's time for me to get used to Windows.

I have to say, though, this laptop is pretty amazing so far. My only regret I've ever had with my Chromebook was that it wasn't a 2 in 1 laptop (at the time they were out of my price range). This is a 2 in 1 laptop, plus it has double the RAM and double the storage of my Chromebook. I'm pleased, even if my savings aren't, lol.

Once I've got my Chromebook repaired, I'm going to go back to using it for all of the things I enjoy about Chrome OS (like cheap art software - the app I use which is free on Google Play is over £12 on the Microsoft Store :twilightoops:), and I'll keep this laptop for the things I need Windows for, so I have the best of both worlds. Until then, I'm going to try and wrap my head around Windows.

Hope you're all having a good day,

~ Angel

PS: What on Earth is this keyboard layout? Everything is in the wrong places... XD

Welcome to the world of Windows! The janky, weird, wacky, but surprisingly okay world of Windows, lol. Also, what are you gonna be studying in college, if you don't mind me asking? Of course if you already know, since I myself only decided very late, haha.

I've almost decided. I don't know how this works in other parts of the world but in the UK we have the BTEC and A-Level qualifications, and you can choose to do one BTEC or three A-Levels at college before you go on to do your degree. I'm definitely going to do psychology, chemistry and maths at A-Level, but the issue is, I did quite well at music, and it seems a waste to let that other potential path in life go by the wayside and not do anything with it. The college I'm enrolling at doesn't do music courses, but I might do A-Level music as an online course.

That's a good idea, honestly. It'd be a shame if your talent in that field went to waste, but I don't believe it will, regardless of how things go.

Over here, after the maturity exam at the end of high school, you need to choose a field of study for your "first degree studies" before you can do "second degree studies" with either the same or different subject. I've just completed the first year of my Global Communication (which is just a fancy name for linguistics) studies; first out of three. I wanted to go for psychology as well but they didn't accept me for that in the end. Oh well, linguistics has been fun so far too - as fun as school can be, that is. I'm a bit concerned for future job opportunities as a linguist, but for now I'm not really thinking about it much, haha.
