Eros chapter 17 in prereads, but... · 4:11pm Jul 16th, 2023
There is a problem. What is the problem, you ask? This:
You’re looking at the comment list of Eros Chapter 16. It’s empty.
As of this writing, last Thursday’s release of chapter 16 hasn’t garnered a single comment, even two-and-a-half days after hitting the publish button on it. The lack of feedback and somewhat anemic read count leaves me wondering if the chapter wasn’t well-received, or if the M-rated side story has simply run its course and folks have lost interest in it.
If people don’t tell me, I don’t know, and it’s doubly frustrating to get no feedback after I spent an entire month working on it. So remember to feed your author, folks. We live for comments and feedback, and when we don’t get them, one of our main motives for writing is gone. If this keeps up, then there’s not much point in me continuing Eros into other scenes and story arcs as I originally planned. And if so, I may simply end Eros after finishing the Night to Remember storyline instead of writing planned one-chapter side scenes or starting additional story arcs later.
Aside from all that, I have 3 of 5 prereads in on the second chapter. Two were quite positive, but the third advised me to actually tone down the M-rated action in places so as to not detract from the worldbuilding and military history discussions. I am taking that under advisement, and though I originally planned to release chapter 17 today, I’m going to delay it until at least Tuesday evening to get the last couple prereads and give it additional attention. And hopefully, more chance for readers to catch up and comment on chapter 16.
Usually I am all over it, but I had a lot of proofreading in backlog. Still busy with it and my commission keeps me busy. I start re-reading eris from the start.
The explosive new chapter will be all the harder I guess 👍
Currently at 8: A Night to Remember - Gilda's Gallery
Give me a hour and I get back to reading/ text to speech and you get a few comments from me alone
Edit: Done, helped proofreading some chapters and one even released. Not of my stories though.
The still was redicules amounts of typos I kept finding...
And what of those who did read it and genuinely had nothing to say?
While Eros isn't really that bad, I do admit that I kinda lost interest in it.
Not because the chapters or writing where bad or anything, it's just that the whole porn thing isn't really my interest anymore at the moment, so idk, maybe I'll go and give it a go later.
i really like reading it i was just really busy with work and some other things going on in my life right now but i was reading after words and i will say this i get excited when i see this update so please don't end it

Hopefully it will be! I did notice you were going through the story again and commenting as you went, which is appreciated. This blog post definitely wasn’t directed at you, since I knew you’d get to the chapter eventually. It was to the dearth of comments otherwise, which seemed a bit ridiculous sixty-plus hours after release.
I’ve gotten them, and thanks again.
In my own works as well, no matter how many passes my prereaders and I give it or how well we proofread.

With respect, if I can spend an entire month on a chapter (or what turned out to be two) spending many hours slaving over 25,000 words that I then to give to you for free, I don’t think it’s too onerous to ask that you drop a sentence or two back.
Did you enjoy the chapter? What did you like or not like? Did the confrontation between Gilda and Marco work? These are things your author would love to hear back on, and as he doesn’t get money for this, his only possible payment is reader feedback. That’s why I ask for it. And that’s why I get a bit grumpy when there isn’t any, especially after all the work I put into this.

Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I lose interest in writing clop (or any other given writing project) and need to do something else for a bit. That’s part of what made Firefly such a good story to write; it was a non-clop project that I could fall back on when needed.
Sure, if and when you feel like it. I hasten to add that I’ve appreciated the feedback you’ve given me in the past, but if this isn’t your cup of tea right now, that’s fine. I’d much rather a reader genuinely enjoy what I’ve got instead of feeling obligated to read it.

I appreciate you saying so! That’s really all it takes sometimes, knowing that my stuff is appreciated.
I'm still reading and enjoying the heck out of both Eros and the regular Feathered Hearts.
So please don't drop the fic.
You picking it up where the original author left off, and doing so this competently, was a boon for the fandom.
The major reasons why I personally rarely comment is because for one; I'm a lurker.
Second; I usually read fanfiction on the bus to and from work.
And I absolutely loathe writing anything on my phone.
Not to mention that I'm utterly beat at those points of my day.
So, basically; it's not you, it's me ;P.
Keep up the good work and know that it IS appreciated.

Don’t worry. All I ask is that people let me know that once in a while.
Appreciate you saying so! It’s been a boon to the writer, too.
As are 90%+ of the fandom, unfortunately.
Fair enough. I do a lot of my writing at work, though, in between tasks.
I’ll do it, but I admit it’s clumsy.
I understand, but don’t be afraid to come back to something you liked later when you have a keyboard in front of you to tell the author you liked it. We live for that.
I get it, believe me. And I accept that most people don’t comment as the price for writing. Still, the more feedback we get, the more likely we are to keep going.
Thank you very much. Hope you keep reading and enjoying. And I still encourage you to drop the occasional comment once in a while, on not must my works, but any story you liked.
