Cover image won't upload: solved?? · 7:50am Jul 4th, 2023
EDIT: The cover image uploaded with someone offering a redownload but I'm not sure what the issue was exactly, either way, thank you for all the advice in the comments! You were all super helpful ^^
I'm not sure where to ask for help regarding this but I'm having a really... particular issue.
In a story (unpublished) I made a cover art for it specifically, however when I attempt to upload the image I always get the " 500 - Internal Service Error " screen.
I have tried multiple things: uploading from various devices (PC -> mobile), clearing cache and cookies, reloading, resetting my device, checking my connection (fully connected), and even contacting the email provided (no response).
I figured it could be a problem with the site so I waited a few days and I still encounter the same issue. I've also noticed this is only an issue with this particular file, as I do not get the screen when I upload a completely random image for the cover. I tried redownloading and renaming the file, but to no avail. For some reason, the site won't allow this particular image and I'd like help with it.
image in question:
Was the random image you tried the same size as this one? Might be too big - if you didn't downscale it it's probably still at the full resolution from when you drew it, which for digital art can sometimes be a bit much for servers to handle easily.
EDIT: Alternatively, change a few pixel values along with the name? Unlikely but can't hurt.
Try download this one and upload it again

Nice image, by the way!
Where did you get this image FROM, anyway? I mean, if you made it yourself, what kind of software etc. did you use?
That might affect the file format.
Downscale and export it as a png or jpg at varying resolutions until it’s under 5MiB (Fimfic’s limit). A png probably will preserve the color gradients and fine details better, but a jpg will allow a higher resolution at the same file size. Pick whichever you prefer, quality or resolution. I’d go with png, since Fimfic will limit the display resolution on the story page, anyway.

I made it myself! The file is PNG made in Ibis Paint X, but I'm not sure why it would be an issue since my other images upload just fine

Huh- this worked! Thank you so much??? I wonder why it was like that though!
It’s happening to me too! How do I fix it?

I really wish I knew but what seems to be working for me is uploading the image in a comment or blog on fimfiction and then copying the image link of that instead!
In case someone else runs into the problem. My solution was turning the picture into a JPEG. I had it as a PNG at first, but that didn't work. JPEG seems to work.
