An artist I follow on Tumblr, Gay-Horse, posted a poll asking which of the mane six is most likely to listen to 100 Gecs. I had to write up a shitpost thing of all their reactions, and I refuse to leave it on Tumblr so I'm infecting all of you with it!
If you're unfamiliar with 100 Gecs, I'll embed a video here for your listening pleasure experience. Keep in mind that this is what I think their most accessible song is; everything else is even weirder. Also keep in mind that the video is weird and offputting and tbh I like it better without watching the video because it's a bit much for me lmao.
There, now that you have a passing familiarity with their sound, here's what I think all the mane six think of 100 Gecs!
Pinkie absolutely loves 100 Gecs, and doesn't understand how anyone wouldn't. They're her favorite band, and she unironically plays them for ponies and always expects they'll love it. When they inevitably don't, she just shrugs and says "They'll grow on you."
Rainbow wasn't able to tell Pinkie that she didn't like it, so she's been listening to 100 Gecs with Pinkie a lot. She owns all their music but she also dies a little inside every time they come on. Pinkie got them tickets to see the band and Rainbow has been absolutely dreading that.
Fluttershy was convinced to listen to them by Pinkie and Rainbow (Pinkie because she thought there was no way Shy wouldn't like it, Rainbow because she desperately wanted Fluttershy to help her think of an excuse to never listen again). She thought "well if one hundred cute little geckos made this music then it must be good" and then was horrified by what she heard. But she later found herself humming to Mememe and realized she has actually been Stockholm syndromed into liking them. This also horrifies her, and she's scared of what she's become.
Twilight wants to understand her friends' interests so she forces herself to listen to them repeatedly while searching for some meaning in the sound. She doesn't really even think it qualifies as music but Pinkie, Rainbow, and Fluttershy like it so there must be something more to it, and she thinks if she cracks the code then it'll all make sense.
Rarity designed a fashion show set to 100 Gecs music and panicked the entire time because her experience of listening to them was like, "Okay well, let's hear what we're working with, and... Oh... Oh, this is... Er no, darling, this can't be right..." It winds up becoming her most successful showcase, and she gets lauded for challenging the medium of what fashion can be as an art form. That night she gets drunk on wine and sobs about how she doesn't know what her life has become.
Applejack would rather saw off her own ears than listen to that noise but dagnabit Apple Bloom and her friends keep blasting it out of their tree house. None of the other Apples get it, and they wondered where they went wrong as a family.
Bonus: Trixie is in the Equestrian version of 100 Gecs.
Extra bonus: Krickis listened to them once because bats likes them and she almost liked Mememe but didn't quite get there, and hated everything else. Then she relistened because of a dumb Tumblr poll and liked them a lot and is now trying to understand how her life came crashing down around her. There is no turning back once you're a 100 Gecs fan...

that thing about the gecs growing on you is so true tho. i started listening to them ironically when i found a pmv of money machine on tumblr, and then i just... started... liking it on its own merits? doritos and fritos is a personal favorite
Other bonus: thedarkprep really wanted to like them because she saw footage of fans bringing a microwave and ti83s to shows. But she couldn’t do it.
