Just reminisced with mom, wondering what year I had bought my Sega Genesis with the allowance I had been saving up. We think it was 1996, and Sonic 2 was still being packaged with the console, when it was four years old.

Sonic 2 introduced Sonic's emerald-powered super transformation, as well as the best sidekick in gaming, Miles 'Tails' Prower.

The above anniversary art is by Tails' original designer, Yasushi Yamaguchi, or more commonly known by his western nickname, Judy Totoya.
