    Coming Soon, Really

I've been a bit under the weather since Trotcon, but feeling better now.

This weekend I need to work on putting together some poni stuff for my niece (she's up here for her birthday), and my inability to do basic things makes that a bit difficult. So I may be delayed a few days on the Trotcon retro and the other long post I still really really want to share with y'all.

Twilight's Enigmatic Clarification (AI ≠ LLM GAI)

To head off any possible confusion, I've added a clarification to TEEE's story page and a note at the top of the chapter explaining that TEEE was not written using LLM generative AI (the story actually predates this technology by several years).

I will be at Trotcon. Still alive.

I remain alive, and as of June 13th am now the number of symmetries in a cube.

    I will be at Trotcon.

Please contact me if you're there! (Or even if not, that's okay too.) :pinkiesad2:

I might do an author party. I'll announce it with another post. Signal boost would be useful.

I am still alive and also at AnthrOhio

Sorry for disappearing. Ironically the thing I wanna talk about is the thing that keeps me from being here at FF or getting anything done. :facehoof:

Quotable Trick Contest № 48! · 7:00pm Oct 31st, 2022

Congratulations to Light Striker for winning last week's contest! :yay:

[Adult story embed hidden]

Story: Winter Heat (M)
Quote: "Yes. Come now, you knew this would happen," it said.

CONTENT WARNING for today's contest: Suicide

THE LEADERBOARD (Unspent/Total Trick Points)

mishun: 16/16 TP :rainbowdetermined2:
Fylifa: 10/10 TP
Light Striker: 8/8 TP *
BezierBallad: 6/6 TP
FanOfMostEverything: 5/5 TP
Fillyfoolish: 2/2 TP
hawthornbunny: 1/1 TP

(* = Winner of last round! But they can't participate this time.)

You can spend Trick Points in the Trick-Store to get all sorts of cool stuff! :pinkiegasp:

Click here to see the full list of rules.

General Rules

  • The comment closest to the correct answer wins the Trick Point!
  • Ties go to the earliest post.
  • Whenever you win a contest you have to sit out the next contest.
  • You only get one guess! Editing your comment after posting it disqualifies you.

(* = If you made a mistake with your post, such as naming the story but forgetting to name the chapter, you may post a second comment with any corrections provided you do it within five minutes of the initial post.)

Contest Type 2: Multi-Question Quiz! (hardest)

  • I will post a series of questions or a multi-part question.
  • You'll want to participate even when others have answered, because you'll learn more about the questions.
  • You must spoiler your answers.
  • It's okay to look at other users' answers before providing your response! :scootangel:
  • Each question or portion will be worth a set number of points that will be provided to you.
  • In some cases "nearly correct" responses are worth half credit.
  • You will be told your score, but sometimes I won't reveal the true answers!
  • NEW: The winner of the previous contest CAN participate and will even receive a score, but they will be excluded from winning. If the last contest's winner participates, please begin your answer with an unspoilered "(Not Competing)" so people will know they can copy your answer and still win, and do not post your answer until there are at least two other responses.

This is our second multi-part question contest, which now has its own rules (see above)!

Please read this too. Remember to SPOILER your answers, in case other contestants want to think up solutions without being influenced by what other people think the correct answers are. You can do this by highlighting the word in the post and clicking on the Sp icon, or by typing [$poiler]spoiler text here[/$poiler] except with s instead of $.

However, you ARE advised to look at the other answers before posting so you'll have a chance to win (there's no need to post an identical solution to one that came before you, unless you want to be stubborn which is also fun according to the Ponk in my head).

Here is this week's quiz:

Name every story currently visible on this account whose message or theme contains an intentional (on my part) justification for suicide (EDIT: this includes if it appears in any chapter or mini-story of an anthology; please just name the story, not the chapters).
(Not necessarily suicide in general; it can serve as a defense of suicide in a limited case.)

Scoring

  • +1 for every correct response
  • ±0 for every borderline-correct response
  • –1 for every incorrect response
  • maximum score will be revealed after the event closes
  • event closes tonight at midnight, Eastern Time (but scoring may take a day)

Good luck, everypony! :fluttercry:

Honestly, no idea how's one supposed to determine if it's "intentional justification of suicide".
Ones that come on my mind first are "Tiara's Testament " and "Mission of Mercy", maybe.
Does "Ashes" fit if it's not really suicide suicide?
EDIT: added spoiler tags

Honestly, no idea how's one supposed to determine if it's "intentional justification of suicide".

You're just supposed to guess. You may win with anything, since there's only one guess so far! But you need to decide if the "does this fit" should be counted in your guess or not; if I don't hear back, I'll treat it as not counted.

I think it counts

:yay:

Score: +3

Since you're the only entrant, you automatically win! I assume either the time change or (more likely) the content warning kept other potential entrants at bay this time.

I'll post stats next time, but for the curious...

Maximum Score (all eeyups and borderlines): +7
Minimum Score (all nnopes and borderlines): –49

For feedback purposes, reasons for my not attempting this one in roughly decreasing order of criticality:

  1. I didn't have a lot of brain at that particular time and I was wonkily hyperfocused on something else silly. (Ow.) I actually still am wonkily hyperfocused on it. Oh dear.
  2. I won the last one. You did proactively reply there that I could participate in this one and maybe learn something useful even if there weren't a point at the end, but there's still a drop in motivation both from lack of anticipated number-go-up and from a purer “my desire to do this is on cooldown” standpoint.
  3. I couldn't have made use of the limited ability to participate anyway, as it turned out, because I'd have to wait for two others to show up before me, and not only did I not know when that might be, but it turned out to not happen before the close time at all. If I can't post my response when I happen to be looking, adding to the task heap to remember to come back and do it later (especially when it means checking repeatedly) is too expensive, so I give up. (This was actually more directly critical than (2) but is also dependent on it, so I decided to present them in this order.)
  4. This type of question is more time-consuming and working-memory-intensive due to having to make finer judgments, and the wording feels a bit off in a way I don't think I can elucidate right now, which makes it more nerve-wracking.
  5. There were other Internet social activities happening around the Halloween time, and I wanted to go spectate or participate in some of those when I learned of them.

The CW didn't substantially deter me; I am, er, very familiar with something like the “difficult to get into the headspace of characters who want to live” phenomenon you've mentioned experiencing before, and so… :pinkiesad2:

The day-of-week shift (if that's what you mean by “time change”) didn't substantially affect things by itself, though that's because my schedule is shot to pieces to start with. The day-of-year shift had some effect per above.

... the content warning kept other potential entrants at bay this time

So, people can't handle wanting to die?
