An old friend of Bon Bon's has just shown up for an unannounced visit. However, this blonde-maned white pegasus is acting very strange - but disturbingly similar to a certain somepony else Bon Bon knows - and Bonnie's scared her friend will blow both of their covers wide open, assuming she hasn't managed to do so already.

The Kingdom of Equestria. Everyone knows it as the realm of the ponies. But, as the Hearth's Warming tale tells us, there was once an age before Equestria existed as a nation. What might have been, in those long distant eras?
Is it possible, perhaps, that there may have been a time when ponykind itself did not exist?

Let us sift through the sands of time, and see what we may find there...

A set of stories based on a series of prompts from the Thirty Minute Ponies tumblr. The prompts were done for the week leading up to the 500th TMP prompt, and all featured the number 500 in some way.

Untagged because I'm not sure what to use - I can't use cumulative tags because the nature of the individual stories means those conflict with each other. Ditto for the character tags - each individual story focuses on different characters, so no one set of tags applies other than that I've used. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to improve that, I'd appreciate hearing them.

Just before the invasion of Canterlot, a small waystation in the Badlands is taken over by changelings to serve as staging point. Sheltering Heart, the hapless hostess of the place, is locked up in a storage cellar.

Little does she know, her nightmare has only just begun...

A fork in the road, or a branch shooting off of a river. It's a fairly common metaphor for what happens in a temporal decision point - the place where a choice splits the stream of time off into new directions. But time flows ever onward - once past a point of decision, going back and taking the other route is no longer possible. Even seeing down that path is relegated to the realms of the imagination. Or, at least, so it seems.

Princess Luna has finally learned from her sister of one of the secret treasures of Canterlot, a treasure obtained during the time Luna was absent from Equestria. A treasure neither gold, nor gems, but pure knowledge - the factual knowledge, at least in part, of what happened down those other streams of time.
