Vinyl Scratch and Octavia Melody grew up together, and were best friends for as long as either could remember. As troubled young adults in a more troubling world, they soon found their lives revolving around the death games, an underground and mostly criminal form of speeder race involving high-power weaponry, and few rules.

Other than other races held for entertainment for for money-making, there was always an annual set of races to crown a 'King' of the games. Even among ponies with so few morals, the King was respected, at least for his or her time in the spotlight. As Vinyl and Octavia grew up in this world of guns and speed, they began to enter races themselves, and to their surprise, they actually won a race or two occasionally.

However, especially to ponies who grew up with little, money can change even the purest of hearts. The attention they drew to themselves and the money they began to make had an affect on them, and a day would come where even the bonds of friendship and family would be tested. A day would soon come where the races would change them forever.

I was in college, and that didn't surprise anyone. I had always loved to learn. Being only sixteen? Yeah, that made my social life a little tense. Abandoning a human's need to be with their own kind? Even more so. I spent my days in my room, playing games and watching ponies.

Since I didn't know anyone, I had no one to be embarrassed around , and I had no problem buying pony-related merchandise. Before long I found myself with two small stuffed ponies. I talked to them as though they could hear me, and in my mind, they talked back.

It wasn't healthy, but it helped me keep from getting seriously depressed, and I thought that was all that mattered. Soon, I decided I didn't want other friends, and that my imaginary pony friends were enough to live by.

However, one day everything changed, and for better or worse, there was no way back.

A horrible event has caused me to forget everything about who I am, and has sent me to the world of Equestria, where I'll crash-land in the Everfree Forest. I don't have a clue what I'm doing here, or what's going to happen, but if I live through my first night, I know I'm in for one heck of a ride! Also, where is all this fire coming from?
