Inquisitor M

Why 'Inquisitor'? Because 'Forty two': the most important lesson I ever learned. Any answer is worthless until you have the right question. Author, editor, critic, but foremost, a philosopher.

Christmas Flashfic & Progress · 6:38pm Dec 25th, 2015

In the space after my last blog, things have continued to order themselves in a very positive manner. I say that in a passive way because quite a bit of it is genuinely stuff that is happening to, but I also say so in the knowledge that it is only because of my choices that they fall within my sphere of influence, and getting the most out of them is a very conscious process.

Blimey! It's only some good news! · 8:28pm Dec 16th, 2015

Firstly, AShadowOfCygnus seems to have returned from his temporary incarceration by aliens (though I can't promise he has returned with the same number of limbs) and finished off his reading of Pride that I have been eagerly anticipating. Aside from the usual quality of the reading and Cygnus's aptitude for capturing drama, I found this one particularly useful for seeing how the pacing is very much off for the second half of the story.

The End is in Sight · 6:45pm Dec 6th, 2015

After considerable contemplation, it is clear that my interest in writing ponies, and ponies in general, has dwindled to the point of irrelevance. I have one last thing I'm considering before I move on for good, since it is something I've wanted to do since early on.

In the meantime, those so inclined to read it may find the introductory scene I wrote for Taking Flight to be interesting.

Be warned, there's no post-draft editing on this.

Be excellent to each other,
-M

Until Further Notice · 4:45pm Nov 12th, 2015

I have tried to get myself to do something, but in the end, I just have to concede that I don't care right now. There's no payoff in it for me, so I'm throwing in the towel until I feel different.

Not-So-Formal Review: Sweetie Belle's White Knight · 11:12am Nov 10th, 2015

I've been feeling constricted by setting myself specific things to write about, so I think I'm going to just let my mind wander this week and go wherever the mood takes me and get back to perspective later.

In the meantime, this is overdue because I couldn't find nicer ways of writing it.

Pony Psychology: Fluttershy · 1:28am Nov 7th, 2015

She's timid beyond compare and the embodiment of kindness, so how does Fluttershy have such an intimidating presence to her when she wants it?

Let’s take a look, and let’s start right at the beginning.

[WARNING: 'Tis a long 'un!]

Personal Update · 1:35pm Nov 4th, 2015

Hello everyone.

I'm rather conscious of having gone quiet despite having more things than ever to do and talk about. The truth is that the real-world job-hunting situation is doing some weird things to me.

A Certain Point of View: First or Third?

So, the comments on my last post successfully predicted where I was going next, so let’s just dive right into that (he says, already a day late).

A Certain Point of View: The Opinionated Narrator

First person, second person, third person, limited, omniscient: that’s all we need to know, isn’t it?

Of course not, and I’m going to kick off with something I mentioned in yesterday’s formal review: the opinionated narrator.

Formal Review: On Target · 4:33pm Oct 27th, 2015

Ladies and gents, it's that time again. The Pleasant Commentator and Review Group got about 90 stories submitted this time, and I'll be attempting to tackle one per week – at least until I run out of relatively short ones that fit this format. As always, I will reproduce all such reviews here.

I'm hoping to have a few words on what I call the 'opinionated narrator' up here tomorrow to resume my Invisible Ink posts.
