Here is some hackneyed philosophy on a point Garen made:
"And I have decided that war is stupid. Get angry at me if you want, but that is what I believe."
Interesting view of the character that war is futile. I would hazard a claim that war is a tool. It serves a purpose, and whether the war is futile/pointless/stupid/etc. or not depends on that purpose. That purpose can also be misguided or misinformed. E.g. War is stupid vs. the reasons to go to war is stupid. A defense to protect citizens against a belligerent nation may be necessary, but to understand whether it was proper or not needs the context of the conflict itself. At least humanity kept their free-will/determination and made sure the outside threat could not harm them in that capacity again.
10694934 Garen's view comes from being the 'therapist' of countless soldiers; through them he's seen every reason and excuse for war, repeated a trillion times.
Though calling them stupid is a simplification of a generalization. Halberd can't conceive so much amounts of time and lives, and Garen could have been more tactful.
"I'm a spirit, a being born in this plane of existance. Don't ask about how I really look; you couldn't perceive it anyway and I can't describbe it in words you can comprehend."
Ah, like the eldritch horrors and bible accurate angels, who go "Do not be afraid" when meeting mortals. And also made me remember a quote from a certain jackal headed god in "gargoyles": "Death is always pointless... THAT is the point..."
Huh, how long has this been around? Oh well. Let's see how this plays out. I have to wonder if Halberd actually deserves a peaceful end. Maybe that's mean, and maybe he's technically a victim, but he's also an adult. And that means all his actions, and all his crimes are his own.
Oooh I am liking this so far! Much as I may have detested him as pony, Halberd was a compelling character and I’m very interested to see what this path to redemption will ultimately look like. Can he even be redeemed? Will he even want to be?
The flow of the story is great!

Ok, this looks promising so far, following for now.
Oooh, this is going to be a harrowing yet entertaining tale. Do go on.

Since february, but I'm slow at writing and advertising, so it's not really known.
It's not a matter of Halberd deserving a peaceful end, is that the Spirits don't want to deal with the alternative.
Oooh I am liking this so far! Much as I may have detested him as pony, Halberd was a compelling character and I’m very interested to see what this path to redemption will ultimately look like. Can he even be redeemed? Will he even want to be?
Looking forward to reading the rest of this!
