No no no, the reasons red and black Alicorns are so despised are several:
1. The color scheme itself is unnecessarily dark, gritty and edgy. It's so out of place, and the color scheme itself has been used so often that it has become the Call of Duty of pony color schemes. Dark colors can be done right, just look at Twilight, Luna and Sombra. Hell, dark colors can even work on OCs. This wouldn't be so bad if not for...
2. Red and black OCs are almost always poorly written. Between a half-assed attempt at a tragic backstory, being the "must powahful poneh in oll uf Ekwestriuh dat cannut be defetehd", the writing intelligence of Tommy Wiseau crossed with Uwe Boll, and just generally sticking out like a sore thumb, and not in a good way like Discord or Sombra.
3. Lack of creativity. Unless it's a satire of OCs of the same vein or the curious rarity of good red-black characters, you can tell the quality of the writing just by looking at the character. Holy friggin' hell, I cannot stress this enough...
8101002 As a local Edgelord and the creator of Foxfire and Writhing Ember, I am inclined to agree. (Also, you forgot to mention Tirek and Chrysalis; they too sport dark color schemes.) Me and Patient are both aware of this. Painfully aware.
That said, it doesn't stop us from writing chapters for this fic. We're more or less exploiting how poorly-written red-and-black alicorn edgelords tend to be, and that's coming from someone who has previously written such a character before.
