Expect the unexpected. That's something that John Constantine has tried to live by. He's lived as long as he has by expecting the unexpected, and by conning some of the most powerful beings in existence.
This chapter was great. I love the way you introduced the beginning of the war. Still, I feel that Dream wasn't portrayed correctly, as he would have punished John for punching and seeing Destruction as a bad guy is kind of depressing considering that he's a great guy in his story arc and the fact that most of the Endless love him rather than despise him. Then again, he could have been in his incarnation as Daniel Hall.
Yeah, I smoothed over Dream's reaction a little, but that's not to say that he isn't going to punish John in the future. As for Destruction and Despair it's not so much that they despise them, but rather Dream is worried if the Endless join the battle neither of them will be able to stop.
Destruction is actually pretty kind as an Endless, but things in Equestria are a little different as well. Most often things that represent a destiny or a fate are often have a sort of magic that is specific to them.
I do remember Death, in a regular DC comic, saying that all of the endless are what they represent. In this case Destruction, or War as he's known here, would be war. He would be consumed by the magic of his destiny being fulfilled, and it's likely he couldn't stop. The same thing for Despair. All of those suffering and in despair would fuel her destiny as well.
So, to keep them safe, Dream doesn't want them to join the battle.
For as popular and loved as the Vertigo universe is, there is a severe lack of fan representation out there. You make me happy with every reference you include. Now I'm imagining Cain and Able as ponies...

4775290 OK, thanks for clarifying that...BTW, Despair is a woman despite what her face would suggest.
I'll admit, the House was a bit of a surprise.
