I'm not dead, and neither are my active stories.

Life has been, in a word, "complihectibusycated." I've had a lot on my plate that's just been... a lot, and that has significantly sapped my energy and ability to lose myself in the writing process. I've barely strung two words together for anything remotely related to creative writing for, well, a painfully long time.

I have come to the conclusion that my muse, if it were a person and not an arbitrary literary device giving some measure of personification to the concept of inspiration, would be that obnoxious co-worker who constantly stirs up trouble in the office, wastes time, pranks incessantly, and is generally a lazy schmuck, yet who can't be fired, no matter how much the boss wants to, because he's literally essential to the company functioning.

Random idea occurred to me recently, as I've been on something of a podcast kick (mostly "Jocko" Willink, the former Navy SEAL, in case you're curious). The simplest and smallest of kindnesses can have profound effects. It's a point that I often make in my writing because I think that it's one of the most important points to make. When I look around and see so many people finding only the darkness in the world, I can't help but want to show them how beautiful the world is, and how the littlest thing can turn a bad day around.
