Ranking the CMC Episodes (From Worst to Best) · 7:30pm Feb 28th, 2019

The CMC weren't even originally going to be in the show, they were supposed to star in their own spin-off series per Lauren Faust's wishes, but Hasbro shot the idea down in favor of the CMC appearing in the show. Now, eight seasons (soon going on to nine) later that decision seems to have been a wise one. In fact, I'd say the CMC have for the most part gotten off better compared to the mane six and Spike, though there has definitely been an issue of the show not knowing what exactly it wants to

Episode Re-Review: The Ending of the End, Parts 1 and 2 · 6:20pm Jul 17th, 2021

This is it, the big one. The penultimate episode/episodes of the show and the final two parter. Originally, this two parter got bundled back to back with "The Last Problem" to be part of a prime time finale for all of FiM, on a Saturday night in October when most people were likely watching college football games (it's almost like Discovery Family wanted to kill the show by ensuring it got as low as possible in ratings). Much like "School Raze" this two parter has two different writers with

IDW Comics Revisited - Main Series #16 · 3:00am Oct 2nd, 2020

So the bookworm arc didn't start out very good, but Friends Forever was off to a somewhat rocky start with subpar art and a story that got hijacked by an OC. So maybe there was still a way to turn this arc around as the Friends Forever series seemed ready to kick off in high style with a DiscordxCMC issue. But did the arc here in the main series turn it all around? Well, let's find out.

Episode Re-Review: Parental Glideance · 5:47pm January 27th

Fun fact about this episode, it aired in the U.S. about a week after Mother's Day and about a month before Father's Day. Of coruse, by now much of the fandom's attention was on early episode airings coming out of Treehouse T.V. in Canada, and on what was announced for further down the road. Interestingly, this episode marked the debut of a new writer in the form of Josh Hamilton, whose previous writing credits included both Avatar cartoons (The Last Airbender and The Legend of

Stranger Than Fanfiction Review · 4:46pm Jul 30th, 2016

That was quite possibly the shortest hiatus so far, and it was only our second mid-season hiatus. Ponies are back, and back with style! And to kick off the second half of the season, we've got Patton Oswalt to guest star in a Rainbow Dash episode involving Daring Do! With Josh Haber teaming up with Mike Vogel (who has now been credited as Michael Vogel) who wrote "A Hearth's Warming Tale" and "Spice Up Your Life", did this episode start off Season 6's second half on a high

Viva Las Pegasus Review · 4:47pm Sep 17th, 2016

20 episodes and we're FINALLY exploring a new location, and from the looks of things it's the only new location we're going to be visiting this season (we've been back to Manehattan, twice, and while Restuarant Row was a nice addition to Canterlot there's still the obvious fact that we've seen much of Canterlot already, to say nothing of trips to the Crystal Empire). And it's another map episode, this time featuring Applejack and Fluttershy, and the writers of "The Times

Every Little Thing She Does Review · 5:05pm Sep 24th, 2016

So, we're getting only our third Starlight focus episode since the premiere and it seems she won't be back again until the finale. Well, I have warmed up to Starlight a little, but I still do feel like reforming her wasn't in the show's best interests because they seemed to have skipped over the crucial phase of Starlight having to earn her redemption (which hopefully the finale will address and fix). Michael Vogel is returning to pen this episode, and while he's been in a ton

Ranking The Writers of FiM, From Worst to Best (Version 2) · 12:01am Nov 15th, 2016

I did this only once before, after Season 5, but I figured the list could be updated now that some new writers have been added and some of the old writers have had a chance to try and change the impressions they've gotten. So if you're interested, here's the original version. Like always, I mean no disrespect to the DHX staff, and just like before I'm not going to be counting Lauren

We had a couple of new unicorns introduced to us this season, so I think it's time to update the list again. Here's the second version, from the end of Season 5. Time to find who made it onto the list this time around!

Top Ten Stallions, Version 4 · 8:44pm Nov 2nd, 2016

Spike and Discord weren't the only ones this season who got better roles in terms of male characters. This season, at least early on, had a ton of really strong male characters, even if we didn't get a whole lot of new stallions. Granted, it wasn't completely perfect, we still had male characters like Zephyr Breeze and Sky Stinger, but for the most part the good outweighs the bad. In any case, here's the

Ranking The Reformations Of FiM, From Worst to Best · 6:50pm Nov 7th, 2016

Starlight Glimmer's reformation continues to remain a divisive subject among the fandom, with some people praising her, other condemning her, and many others (like myself) being more neutral to her while generally leaning more towards love or hate for her. One of the most common complaints is that Starlight's reformation pails in comparison to Sunset Shimmer's and that she was a bad attempt at creating a Sunset Shimmer character in the show since the writers and show staff said

Cutie Re-Mark Review · 7:06pm Nov 28th, 2015

Well, it's finale time, and it looks like Season 6 won't be here for a whole year.

(Stay strong fandom, we'll get through it one way or another)

With Josh Haber coming back from having written "Friendship Games" to pen this two part finale, did he end the season on a high note, or bring it crashing down?

Well, let's find out.

Op-Ed: Why Do We Like Something? · 7:29pm Aug 24th, 2015

Hey everyone, welcome back after a most interesting weekend! Well, maybe it was an interesting weekend for you, I certainly can't speak for all of you. Certainly it was an interesting weekend for those in Spokane, Washington, though, as they had to decide which the greater fire was: The massive, multi-acre wildfires burning up the forest? Or the conflagration downtown that was the Hugo Awards burning themselves to the ground to keep fiction ideologically pure?

Mane Attraction Review · 6:22pm Nov 21st, 2015

Well, Season 5 is winding down, and with the penultimate episode of the season, we have Amy Keating Rogers' swan song. This season, she has given us "The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone" our first PinkieDash episode since Season 1, which also redeemed Gilda, "Canterlot Boutique" which furthered Rarity's character arc and introduced us to Sassy Saddles, and the mind blowing musical that was "Crusaders of The Lost Mark" which redeemed Diamond Tiara and gave the CMC their cutie

Season 5 Song Rankings (From Worst to Best) · 5:02am Dec 3rd, 2015

Another season has come and gone, and since we already saw how the episodes stack up, let's take a look and see how the songs faired. Season 5 offered some pretty good ones, including quite a few from two musical episodes. But we had some pretty long droughts between songs, as was evidenced by the gap between "Tanks For The Memories" and "Canterlot Boutique".

With Noelle Benventui, the writer of "Maud Pie" in the driver's seat, did Rarity manage to pull out another smash hit like "Rarity Investigates" or a more meh episode like "Canterlot Boutique"?

The One Where Pinkie Knows Review · 5:16pm Oct 17th, 2015

Last week was an unexpected mind blower, and my new all time favorite episode, so this episode had a tough act to follow. It was penned by G. M. Berrow, and at first glance you'd probably think she was a relatively new writer plucked from the depths of obscurity. But if you thought that, you thought
